Charrington / Mills Bandit

I was watching this Charrington bandit on a auction and have a question about it.... This looks like a Mills Hi Top to me but I guess it is a copy. Was this made in the UK from Mills parts or were the parts made in the UK under license from mills, by who, or is there another story? Where is the Char...

Readers Lives'

Reading through some posts the other day I found one from a member questioning why we seem reluctant to put photos of our collections on here. I am going to rectify that by posting a photo of my small collection and I will wait for the many fantastic photos to appear. I did have many more but fell o...

Re: How do I clean this?

I don't really need it to shine, just get the stains out.

How do I clean this?

Just wondered if anyone knows a way to get this part back to looking good? I have tried very fine wet and dry but that left a mat finish. I have tried abrasive polish as in T-cut but that didn't do much. I am sure someone on here has restored this type of metal before.....

Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta

So finally I have finished my Exacta with the new case I have made. I am quite pleased with it as wood work is not my first skill. I think the trim looks great. It took ages to put on as the corners would cause the bit before and after to lift so had to clamp the strip down as I fitted it.

Re: Cam Davy Jones Locker Penny Pusher discovery!

I spent a lot of money in Jackson's back in the late 60s and 70s. I bet I played that machine.

Re: Merkur

Thanks TF. I didn't try for a reduction assuming the clock missing was the final nail, in that I wouldn't find one.

Re: Merkur

So update for those remotely interested. I agreed to pay £300 but found not only was it riddled with wood worm needing the wood replacing but the clock was missing. I've walked away. (unless someone out there has a clock for sale)

Re: Merkur

Thanks for the info BP. This one is up north. Looks complete but it's rough. Been outside under a canopy a few years by the look of it. Wants£300 for it. Not knowing this bandit I was checking if it was rare enough to risk the money. Not that I want to make money on it, just checking I'm not buying ...

I've been offered a Merkur bandit in quite poor condition. It says"Mills" on the top flash but the owner says it's German. Are they rare? I've never heard of Merkur...

Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta

I found some edge trim that I was thinking of on eBay. Not cheap at £13 a meter but it's going to look great I think.

Re: Decorative edge trim for an Exacta

Did you get that buy-it-now one on eBay which I considered, but too far? If so, the trim looked OK, although I could not see the whole case. Yes Treefrog I bought that one off ebay. Mech is fine but the case can be crumbled to dust by hand. I have never seen so many woodworm holes in my life. The f...

Decorative edge trim for an Exacta

I am attempting to make a new case for a Wulff Exacta I have. What I need is the trim that is round the edge of the case at the front. I will need a "J" shaped profile and gold colour. I haven't found anything that looks like what I want, or a search term to look for. I got a bag of sample...
