Re: Old electrics in machines

Well... I think I am going to be in the minority here, but I like to keep machines as original as possible. In fifty years, I have worked on hundreds of machines and I can't ever remember having to replace a transformer. Replace any wiring with hard, frayed or cracked insulation. Make sure all metal...

Re: Getting so much done ..

You've made a lovely job of that machine BP. I know nothing about the 1920s Mills Puritan Bell... BUT many years ago, when I was working on Bally bingos, I came across some original ones with two cash-boxes. One box for the operator and one for the site owner, who had his own key. What's more, the p...

Re: Anyone got some brass tubing?

Chronos engineering supplies have brass tube up to 1 inch which should be OK for 10p coin. Mallard metal packs are also very helpful and stock a vast range of stuff. They have helped me with brass and stainless tube in the past .You will find both with a google search.

Re: Bryan's Flecked Paint Style

There used to be a paint called Portafleck which did the job in one spray coat. I don't know how it worked exactly but I think it was a base colour with the coloured specks somehow suspended in it which made their way to the surface on application. Maybe one part was water based and one part oil bas...

Here's the Meyers version of this game. He improved it by putting the coin entry on the front but had to hinge the door on the left!

It's the top off a jukebox remote selector (wall box).

Possibly Seeburg from the 1950s.

Re: Metal backflash - steel or ali?

As far as I know all backflashes were made from aluminium sheet, never seen one made from stainless steel. I've been told that it's possible to replicate the engine turned or circular swirl pattern by mounting a cork in a pillar drill and producing the pattern using fine valve grinding paste (as use...

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????

years ago i had some Bally Bingos with looms and woodwork which were oil soaked. I took them to a company which did steam cleaning (lorry chassis) and let them steam clean the lot.The results were superb and they came back looking like new.I had been worried the cabinets may fall to bits but no harm...

Looking at the front plate again... it looks like it may have been cut from a piece of anodised aluminium sheet.

Re: Does this machine look original to you?

What about the plate on the front that prevents the cigarette falling to the floor?
I think this looks very fresh compared to the rest of the machine, maybe re-made?

They were generous machines and rewarded skilful players and were tremendously popular. No percentage controller on these early games an...

P.E. stood for Phonographic Equipment of Ladbroke Grove in London.who were the importers of Bally fruit machines.
The tokens with a whole in the middle were 3d in value and the solid ones were worth 6d.

Re: Selecta Music

The New Yorker machine is an Ace machine or someone's conversion of an Ace machine. Ace machines were amongst the early electro mechanicals and were very popular in their day and were made by a company in South Wales - you occasionally see their tokens for sale on ebay 6d per play and probably the f...
