Advice on old coin operated horse needed please

Post by jm43 »

Hi, can anyone advise me please :) I was left this horse when I did a house swap about ten years ago. It's no longer working, and has been outside, probably about 12 years! My uncle had a look at it and got it working one summer about 6 years ago and it worked for a good while, but then it stopped and has been neglected since. I'm not sure of its age but the coin slot was set to take 20p pieces. The horse moves when pushed still but it is in quite a poor state. I'm moving house in October and can't take it so I'm really just wondering is it worth trying to sell it and if so how much to ask? Are people interested in trying to restore machines in this kind of state? Many thanks if anyone could offer any advice.

Ebay's the place for this. Low starting price and if someone wants it, it will find its right value

I thought of Ebay but I'm in the Isle of Man so the freight to send it to the UK would probably not make it viable unfortunately. I was going to advertise it on some local sites but really have no idea of its worth (if any) can anyone suggest a price to try asking? Many thanks.

Im assuming the horse is metal and not fibreglass. If so these are quite desirable when restored, the last one I saw in good working condition sold for a little over £500. Given your location and poor condition of yours Id be thinking £100. Id still be giving ebay a shot tho

This looks like a fibreglass horse to me-I had a basil brush ride by the same manufacturer which was fibreglass

Not working and neglected is not worth much. There are lots of kiddie rides on ebay that don't sell or go cheap. This needs so much work there is no scope for profit, so you need someone who just loves it. Won't be that many. I would start at 50 quid, just to get rid. I'm afraid most people search for items they can make money on, and buy them for that reason and not because they want them.

You need ADIPS for them now, which has severely dropped the value.

Being from Aust I had to look that up! The Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme (ADIPS) involves a series of pre-use and in-service inspections, and applies to all fairground rides.

I'd always thought it was metal, but no, it all appears to be fibreglass apart from the coin part and foot stand.

Sling the stand
Keep the horse
Better money
Even if fibreglass
It's nice on its own
Don't strip it
Good luck
