I'm new and will have photos by tomorrow

Post by nathanhigham »

Hi guys - I have just found a 1961 Aristocrat Starlite in the shed of a new house I have just bought. Could you give me any info as to how many were made and where I could get parts for this? I would love to do it up. Also, how would I get into it, as have no keys, and what kind of coins would it have taken? I have been on your website and it looks as though you would be the best place to start!! Any info at all would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Nathan Higham.

Made by the Ainsworth Dental Co. in Australia (and on licence elsewhere), there were thousands of these. A good machine to start on and almost indestructible, we need photo photos photos we love photos. You will need to drill out the center of the locks and it should open easy then. I'm sure it can be brought back to life.

Just a wild guess BP, but I reckon it was in the shed.

Here are a few I found in my files. You may not have to drill the lock, as the doors were a sloppy fit most of the time. Try tipping the slot onto it's right hand corner, which may take the door out of square and allow the 2 securing lugs to lift off the sliding catch on the frame. Failing that, once the lock has been drilled, if you stick your finger into the drilled hole and push the operating bar down, that will release the catch. Take off the long spring once open to stop the door slamming shut and locking again. I spent a full day searching for a set of Governor keys for one I had sold, only to find they had slipped down the back of the locked door, into the machine (after I had drilled the new lock)

Hmm, shed is favourite, but so is cellar if there is one.

They never surface in the attic do they?

In the days of Ad-Mag and Exchange & Mart I was convinced they all lived in the kitchen on the end of the draining board.

Well badpenny, I think the clue as to where it was stashed is in the first line of the first post, just where it says, "in the shed".

I'm going for the Garden shed not the Coal shed as it would look awful., BP does have a point !!UHOH!! !
That opening in the slide cover, just forward of the coin tube - would it have been a JP tube perchance? Possibly for non-UK markets where JPs were allowed?
Only wondrin',,,, !PUZZLED!
Great find though,,

Andy what are you waffling about?
Those photos aren't Nathan's machine that he found in a shed behind the attic in his cellar!

That's rajquite rightly claiming bragging rights with his example of what constitutes a pristine example of a "Starlight" please note Her Majesty's approved spelling of the name. !SMARTY!

I think you got out of bed the wrong side of the billabong today, next you'll be claiming you didn't notice in the OP's first line that it was uncovered in a shed .......honestly! !!ESCAPE!!
