anyway this machine
came from a warehouse
that was owned by
the biggest collector/dealer of antiques
mainly furniture in the uk
in the 1980s /90s ,he owned a 6 story
building on upper parliamant street in liverpool
one of the old mills and it was rammed with the best of everything
but he was the hardest man to buy off
people travelled from all over the world
to buy his gear
and he used to slam the door in there faces'
even if they had 100,000 pounds to spend
he used to say am to busy
then go and sit in his office and read

he was the weirdest man in the trade,
then one day he had a major brakedown
and walked away from the whole lot
and left a local dealer to sell the lot for him [110 containers all went to the states]
there were machines in there but i never got a chance to see

this machine i was told was the best and cleanest he had
so it was kept by the owners friend
who worked for him
and is a mate of mine ,,
this all happened in 2002 so hes had it a while
and now he needs money !SURRENDER!
i paid him a good price for it
but the little handle on the cash box confuses me
coz it looks original and there are no holes filled :!?!:
i am going to have a look through
all my allwin parts
its on half penny
if i cant change this machine on to old
penny i will be willing to swap
for an old penny machine

Very nice machine there Jingle, quite similar to the 'Digger' by BMCo but the chrome plate on the Digger had slightly different shapes punched out. Perhaps it was made as a demonstrator by BMCo, obviously would not be in an arcade with no lock. If it were mine I would personally leave it on half penny.

Always liked BMCo machines, well made sturdy construction with mechanism to last and last and last and.........well you get the idea.

Only seen one other the same as yours and it was nowhere near as good condition (see pic below). I see that it does not have the normal 'winged' payout cup as most of the BMCo machines had but an angular plate surround. BMCo put these on a few of their machines, perhaps they were the fore-runners of the winged payout, or maybe just for the half penny. The machines I have seen this style of payout on have always had the payout quite off-centre and close to the hammer lever.

Arite Jingle me 'old ,
Just for our benefit regarding ha'penny machines,
If it was originally made to play on 'em why would you prefer to convert it to penny?
Increased value? even if converted?
Surely there's no shortage of half penny pieces?
Maybe coz there's not a website called 'Ha'pennymachines'? I dunno, do tell kid, I'm genuinely intrigued.
Cheers,
PM ya later.

What model name BMCo?

Post by gameswat »

Topic merged - site admin.

Hey, just finishing this one off and wondering if anybody can tell me if this had a name? No marquee originally on this example but maybe someone else has/had one with the mirrored marquee name? I've not seen the added deco trimmings on the cabinet front edges before, also some patterning on the vertical edges, factory or added later by an operator?? Thank you!

Hi Gameswat, nice job you have done. This has been puzzling me as well, !PUZZLED! I have seen a few others like this but never managed to discover its name - if it ever had one. BMCo were so prolific in the 1930s with their many numerous styles of wall machines.
