A photo to bring tears to your eyes
1934, the largest (but not the only) load of slot machines being towed out of New York to be dumped at sea
Re: A photo to bring tears to your eyes
Yeah Paul,,,,,,,one of numerous pics of the police raids from that time. Awfull isn't it? Cops & NYC's Mayor La Guardia sledge-hammering machines, floor machines being tipped over balustrades into the murky depths etc......
If only they knew.............................hindsight's a wonderful thing - but cruel!

However what we have to remember is that every one smashed makes those that survived more valuable.
What is funny is that the politicians photographed smashing them up were often in the pay of the companies distributing them.
There's a very funny photo on t'web somewhere of the employees of Acme Amalgamated Amusement Machines (or some such name) all enjoying their Christmas Party in nineteen hundred and fast asleep. They're all laughing and waving their funny hats except for the very serious looking geezers standing at the back with their trilbies pulled down over their eyes so the rest of the lads back at the station wouldn't recognise them.

You often see machines come up for sale where someone has dredged up a rusty old machine from a river, completely useless of course usually lacking the wood which has rotted.
