Bell Cascade Penny Deluxe no key
Bell Cascade Penny Deluxe no key
Hi Folks, Thinking of bidding on a Cascade at auction, but it has no key and is locked and untested. The auction is too far from my home to go look at it, the pictures look like everything else is there. Just wondering if you can get replacement keys, is each one different? Is the lock easy to open without the key. Any advice would great.
Thanks for reading.
Derek.

Re: Bell Cascade Penny Deluxe no key
Welcome to the forum,it is the there is
might be worth letting us see a photo from the auction room (unless your worried one of us might bid)
It may well not have the original lock anyway, many have already had at least one new one. you are very unlikely to get a new key for it but a new lock is not a problem.
These are always (I think) a drop latch type of lock,if the latch is very loose on the lock you MIGHT get in without drilling out the lock, easiest way though will be to drill out the centre of the lock (info on other threads) with a med sized drill and the lock will collapse, once your in the old lock is easy to remove

Hi ..... welcome to the site.
Any locksmith should be able to supply the correct blank, the issue is cutting it to fit the particular lock.
It will need opening first in order to remove the lock. I've yet to find a locksmith prepared to take on lock picking commissions without wanting to charge £20-30 an hour or for a part there of, that's if they're even interested.
Some of us use lock picks, but if you're not used to them they take some learning. Also I have a memory that most Cascades use a double bite key with teeth on both of the sides of the tang which adds to the fun.
I'd probably have a serious look at prising the back of it, it's only plywood and usually just pinned in place.
If this machine isn't open you don't know if the cash box is in place or more importantly the coin trap and rejector mechanism is there. The one a bought two or three ago was missing it and a piece of cardboard and sellotape was feeding 1np coins down to the flicker.
The only one I know being auctioned currently is at Nesbits Auctions Ltd in Portsmouth on 06 Sep 2017 10:30 BST
If that's the one you're after then there is a lever missing and it looks as if someone has put The Bonus lever back in back to front as it's the only reason they sit at an angle and don't reset on their own.

Problem is the locks are usually ace type pin locks, a little tougher to drill, but I have done it.
Looks complete to me, the only bits inside that need to be there are the coin acceptor, pressure bar and cash box. If acceptor is there, which I assume is as coins are in the machine, then all good. Trips are complete and hammer

Thanks again everyone, Badpenny, thats the one I'm looking at.
I'm gonna bid for it, its for my Uncles 60th Birthday present, which isnt till November, so gives me time to get it sorted. Hope it doesnt go up to stupid money though.

These are nice interesting machines but not that rare or complex with few moving parts so the price should stay in the ball park. go to the elephant house auctions results pages and search them out from past auctions to give you a guide.

TF me old mucker, I refer you to my post above yours. The absence of a coin acceptor can be overcome with a bit of cardboard and Sellotape as I found out to my own distress, simply because there are coins in it is no guarantee.treefrog wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2017 5:49 pm Problem is the locks are usually ace type pin locks, a little tougher to drill, but I have done it.

Also take a gander at this enlarged picture of the machine, you may wish to reconsider your assurance that all the trips are there. You may also agree with me that the Bonus trip is in backwards.

Thanks geordy, that's good to know, although I have to admit to having to check that one via Google.
It's heart warming to learn that rolate are going strong and have been since 1964.

Sold for £300 plus buyers premium of just over 30% ( max if paid by card and via thesaleroom.com)
Re: Bell Cascade Penny Deluxe no key
I was watching it, but missed the precise time it went under the hammer due to worm commitments. I would have gone to maybe £250.

Re: Bell Cascade Penny Deluxe no key
I have been watching this thread as I too couldn't get round to the auction. I was at a mate's flat having some grub waiting for the auction lot. He had an old VHS tape on his TV of a fairground in the '70s which helped pass the time. Suppose at that price it didn't cost the earth, especially if you were there? Anyway, we had a few beers and he got that legless he couldn't tie his bootaces. I mean he's harmless enough but when he was a teenager he used to get into fights over his surname being Lid. His sister used to calm him down. I used to date her. Ann was her name, she got married but I remember her as Ann....
Re: Bell Cascade Penny Deluxe no key
Well, I won the auction, arriving Wednesday or Thursday. £300, just need to get on Ebay now and get the trip that's missing, hopefully nothing else. I will post some pics when it arrives. Fingers crossed I can get it working.
Re: Bell Cascade Penny Deluxe no key
Only just read BP's comment and yes half a trip missing, bloody eyes....one wonders where these go. Also on previous threads and the jackpot levers being reversed, which seems to have been a common thing happening to me as well and others. I wonder if not an accident and operator being stingy.badpenny wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2017 10:57 pmTF me old mucker, I refer you to my post above yours. On another point looking at the pictures, is the glass cracked top left as I see old tape running across?
