I bought this photo, which shows this beautiful Coastal Command slot machine. Anyone in your collection? Or do you know anything more about him?

I'm fairly sure this is German and think I've seen pictures of it before, but have not seen an example in the UK. I'd remember, as I love skill-based wall machines with interesting pictorial features. The nearest I could find on the comprehensive automatax-club.de gallery was the somewhat similar Mann über Bord.

Interestingly, the game in your picture looks like it was made for the old penny and has an English name and instructions, which would suggest that it was made for export and some fortunate British collector now owns it.

I bought several hundred photos from a British vending machine trader who traded them in the 1980s and 1990s. Among them was this photo, I was very interested in the slot machine.

PM, the Bomb Aimer is very much identified. Formerly belonged to John Gresham, now in the USA. I worked on this machine a long time ago and from memory we attributed it to Ahrens, but I am vague these days.

Fantastic machine

I found an article about John in the World's Fair magazine supplement dating 1974. And in it John states this Bomb Aimer to be by Ahrens. I was the one to find plywood covering the original front door and remove it, as seen in this photo when John owned it, why it was covered I have no idea?

So am I... but I thought if I post this image Gameswat will come along and tell me it's Ahrens, which when we see the full machine, there's little doubting. Do we get our penny back for demolishing the church?

Yes PM, Penny back, and pretty sure if you were to ask Sweetmeats you'll find he took your mystery photo 15 years ago. I thought I had more photos Moon but when I'm busy on other people's machines I tend to forget to take them. Really is a killer piece that I'd have loved to own myself.

Just found the flyer in Resources for the wall machine that started this topic (knew I'd seen it somewhere before). Before being anglicised to Coastal Command, it was called Atlantic-Record and was made in 1929 by Paul Schülke Automatenfabrik of Berlin. Also found here and 1930 version here.
