Time to ........
Re: Time to ........
Spent the day sorting out a load of machines I had dismantled a long time ago and working out what parts go with what. Had a number of Mills mechanisms which I had serviced and wrapped in plastic until needed and the first one I tried I was very disappointed that the reels ran poorly.......after a few tries I realised something was causing a blockage and must have a frog in the system.....no truer words were said as the legs of a mummified frog dropped out of reel number three

I've operated mine for over twenty years and never had a problem - one of my most reliable machines.

Re: Time to ........
And that was me being me.
After 4 weeks, it's safe to say I've got cabin fever. Don't take it personally.
As an update, I'm into my third day of paint stripping the case. I reckon it's had four coats of very thick gloss, all applied with a dead badger instead of a brush.
Luckily I've found a local source for old style chemical stripper as good as Nitromors was before EU made them remove all the ingredients that strip paint. It looks like old Nitromors, smells like it, attacks various layers and is cheaper.
Happy Days, except I am getting fed up scraping.

That's interesting JC, yours must be a good one. Machines that have a lot for the player to do in sequence have to be reliable to operate. I think maybe these machines are completely original ones that have never been restored or rebuilt, especially if the replacement parts were missing had been made and added, having not had anything to copy from.
The Samson Slick machines I've come across before had various different issues, home-made parts and OK for home use but not for arcade.
Re: Time to ........
I bought this B.M.CO machine awhile ago needing light restoration (been stored approx. 30 years ago). Slight downside for me is that it's on 1/2 penny coins. Still a nice find. It works perfectly.

That's lovely (I expect). If you post a photo of it, we can all be jealous at the same time.

Re: Time to ........
Well finished number two, I seem to be very slow at the moment. So was red, but now it is green, as I changed the top casting which was actually a horrible diamond front repro cI guess done by an operator a long time ago. It had no reel posts as well.
So now a sickly green, just waiting for a set of cherries from the States, as I could not get any here. Hopefully will arrive next week.

Next week I might play with electrical stuff like those Golding machines that were going into the Coventry auction.

Re: Time to ........
Number three done......definitely going to do a non-bandit next.....
The red one which I bought over 10 years ago from the guy at the Hill on the House Museum in a terrible state and has been flat packed since then. Kept the original retailer name on the side, wonder if they had any relationship to the main company Bell Automatics. Itβs a mix match machine with Diamond front lower and Black Cherry upper and was going to make a total diamond front. Problem was I could not get hold of an original casting, everyone I got was repro and they never match. Also wonder if they had options made like this as noticed a number of others on the net... Anyway they work, even stuck Mills locks and cash boxes in them.
I am sure there are many faults one can find, but there is an obvious error note right hand machine I have intentionally left. Anyone guess?

Re: Time to ........
Well done! Yes, that cherry is upside down and I was going to turn it around, but there are marks in the paint, so just left. Bad day by whoever put together, probably in the U.K.
Now I never noticed the award card cherry on the same machine... Again came with this, but annoying as I have a spare proper one on another award and was short a normal cherry for another machine (stuck an ad on here a month ago), ended up buying a set from the US......
Now I know why I miss so many things at auctions....

Re: Time to ........
Well, The Slick is done and should really be going back to work, however it'll just end up back in the pile.
It looked like this .....
I'd had it a year or three, and remember playing them as a child.
Even with a substantially powerful paint stripper it took a bit to get to bare metal. Seems there were 5 top coats and 1 primer before I reached what was left of the original Hammerite (type?) light bluey green. Which it turns out is no longer available.
For those who don't know the game play, the next three photos show the three challenges.
There are 5 balls for 1d, and achieving a score of at least 9 returns you your penny. You really get a lot for your copper!!!!
Watch a test drive through the washing here ....
