Make one! It's easy enough and none are original anyway.

I made this

from one of these (not in this condition of course)

I'm not very good with these machines hands on lol. Yours looks very nice, just what I'm after. If you think about selling one day, give me a shout please.

Original golden nuggets have Formica sides and the wider coin trays.

I don't see how there can be an "original" Golden Nugget as Mills never made them. It's possible the Golden Nugget casino converted some in 1947, but I seem to remember this site saying there was no real evidence of that. It is possible I guess, because that was the year Mills stopped making that case. Either the casino bought old stock and converted it or converted their old models to save buying the new Hi Tops (more likely).

The best source on the web for Mills types lists the Golden Nugget four times, the 1947 possible conversion (no Formica sides then and the small double coin tray as in the the Golden Falls they were converted from), 1949 (exactly the same as the 1947 type), 1990 (Formica side but still the GF coin tray), but 1990 so not original. The only Golden Nugget with a large coin tray seems to be the hideous 1957 Golden Nugget Royal - must rank as one of, if not the, worst looking Mills ever made (though possibly not by Mills?)

In this thread Freddy Bailey seems to allude that the two Golden Nugget machines referenced were factory supplied? I'm not sure whether this actually confirms Mills as the factory supplying but then he seems to confirm that these two machines had a special single cherry payout that Mills supplied. I suppose you could infer that the complete machine was a special Mills factory order supplied machine or that Mills supplied the mechanism to someone else to factory supply the whole machine, however, I read it that Mills supplied the single cherry mech within a factory supplied special order direct to the casino, but maybe I am reading that in error. Of course I am only quoting someone else's information, I have no idea.

Treefrog and Aristomatic were discussing this in 2010 - see Another 'Very Rare Golden Nugget' appears on ebay There wasn't a definitive answer, but apparently some Golden Nuggets were made back in the day, it's just not entirely clear whether Mills made them to order or they were casino revamps. Whatever, they're far outnumbered by the recent mock-ups.

As the pictures of the eBay examples Aristomatic found will be deleted in due course, I thought it worth saving some here. These have Formica sides and Golden Nugget reel symbols.

If mills did make them I still think it had to be a special order for the casino,a special offer perhaps made to the casino in an effort to get rid off the old style cases in 1947. It makes you wonder why this machine (which most people dont seem to like) became so popular as a copy !PUZZLED!

Interestingly I found this photo of the GN interior and it shows Black Cherry slots with the Golden Nugget bibs being operated! The casino opened in 1946 so no reason they couldn't have ordered new variations from Mills as the machines were produced until 1948 according to Bueschel.

If you really want one, why not buy a Golden Falls (easier to find) and a conversion kit and make one :!?!: if you don't want to do the work yourself I'll do it for you, no charge! !!THUMBSX2!!

The one I posted above was a Golden Falls when I started on it.
