Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
firstly, sorry I upset you so much aristo
I will write 100 times " I must not put un interesting content in my threads"
If I had started a new thread MrP. would almost certainly have merged it with this one,
The courier was Polish not polite or for that matter polished (I missed the capital letter, I'll stand in the corner for 20 mins)
Thanks for the answers...all of you

Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
There was a couple of Brooklands at auction last week I unfortunately missed, one was missing some bits on the mechanism, the other with the top flash looked complete and had a top flash style I have not seen, looks really good as smaller than others. Of all the Brooklands variants these are the type I live the best, but don't seem to come up often and then two in one auction. Also had original old dagger handles....
Anyone on here get these, hopefully they appear at a slotty auction at some point..
Sorry about small picture my iPad does not work well saving internet pictures

I don't have any advice - except go carefully and yes, much better to keep the original reels where possible.coppinpr wrote:I'd really like to leave the original metal reel strips as they are, but there is a lot of rust pitting on them. Any advise on these? I'm thinking of just cleaning them and leaving them alone. They have the maker's name on them: "Samson of London".
I think the cabinet is adapted from the original Mills donor machine, so maybe the same. The base will be the same width at least. I seem to recall mine had a wooden backdoor - so maybe not.coppinpr wrote:It came with the original cash box (full of pennies) but no back door (would that be Mills size (haven't checked with one of mine yet)?
You can see the missing casting on the one I used to own (a few pages back) - "It's Skill". Originally there was a "skill button" set into the collar just beneath the reel.coppinpr wrote:I think there MIGHT be a casting missing from above the reel window, am I right?
Better late than never...
Some more...

Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
It's a Tom Boland conversion (not Bollands).
Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
And had some nasty changes done to the front which I cannot work out why, e.g. Coin slot going nowhere and additional bits lower down....

Mills Re-Vamp (Boland)
Topic moved & merged - Site Admin.
I picked this up at Coventry this weekend and wondered if the seller was on here and could tell me anything about it, not seen one before. The mech is pretty basic and it's got a fake jackpot, but Im not bothered, I like the look of it.

Re: Mills Re-Vamp (Boland)
I have one. They never had jackpots and some had other themes like Black Beauty and Brooklands. There is a long thread on these machines on here I am sure the moderators will link this to. (Threads merged - Site Admin.)

Re: Mills Re-Vamp (Boland)
I'm happy to put my hand up and say it was mine.
I've had several over the years. Basically an early to mid 20th Century Mills mechanism would be placed in a more modern looking case. Tom Boland was re-vamping in this manner and produced many attractive bandits this way.
It came to me in a bulk purchase of numerous machines, and I have done nothing to it. It was working fine and wasn't showing any issues, not even dried on grease.
One if their biggest operator appeals was the sneaky 10 stop reels with 20 symbols.
These are some other threads on these machines

Not Jerry ....... I'm the other one. Slightly older and even more dippy.
Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
That’s right Jeremy, Jerry was the one swearing at how much the Allwin door went for !
Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
I have to say BP that there were loads of pennies in the machine and I now have a full collection from Victoria to Elizabeth, thank you. It worked with the first penny but now the handle seems to be missing the mech and not doing anything, but I’m sure that’s a simple fix, when I get round to it. Some of these have the dagger handle, is that just a retrofit if I can find one ?
Why did nobody tell me this hobby was addictive. I now have 8 machines and can only work on one at a time.

Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
If the handle is missing the mech, I'd suggest (obviously without seeing it) that the mech has bottomed out. Take it out of the case and look at the same side the handle engages. The button the handle connects with may be at the bottom not having completed its travel? If so look above and slightly to the right you will see the spring loaded ratchet which may be only part way through its travel, if that's the case confirm back to me. I don't want to go on endlessly if I've guessed incorrectly.
You can fit any kind of handle you want it'll still be accurate.

Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...
BP, I understand what you mean by bottoming out but the mech works fine outside the case. It just appears that in the case the handle ‘misses’ the button on the mech. I’m not worrying about it at the moment as I have other machines I’m working on. Thanks for the info on the handle. Just need to find a dagger handle now.

In that case chap, I guess you've had the mech out and not got it fully back in. It needs to click over the lip at the back so it locks in and the two bars come down and lock it there.

Not see this one before.

I was trying to work out if this was the Friday evening puzzle, then noticing below on Shpock - I assume you are referring to this nice bright machine........
Yes, unusual front plate, like the fruits on it. Also note there is no award values on award plate.... We cannot see mechanism out, so no idea how the token is paid.... Yours for a sumptuous £700.

Perhaps it used old Mills mechs from machines like the Extraordinary and had the token mech still fitted from then, although I'm not sure the case shape would work for that.
