Re: You be the Judge

Sabotaging a machine is pretty blatant dishonesty. A dealer ultimately trades on his reputation. One would like to think that this scoundrel suffered in the future from his lack of integrity. Your lack of action did not make you complicit, Roger, but you get no medals for courage either. A warning t...

One last entry on Bill Howard. He had a third book published,"What's Worth Keeping." 2022. All the pictures in Bill's books are excellent and he recounts how he came to obtain the games.

A beautiful unmolested BM Co. game. A suggestion, Geofflove: Move the TV and add this to the wall next to the clock.

Re: Morphy April 2024 auction catalogue

It looks like long time American collector, Bill Howard, is selling most if not all his amazing collection. He published two books showcasing most items going under the hammer: "Every Picture Tell a Story" and "Every Picture Tells a Story Supplement, 2016." Many of his pieces are...

Re: The Forum's yearly check up

I remember communicating with Mr. PM prior to the launch of the site. He said Pennymachines would be the premier site for these games which we love. I imagine even he had no idea how true that prediction would prove out. The wealth of information here is unparalleled anywhere on the internet. I live...

Re: Harpoon or Shaft ???

True bargains are usually found at auctions unrelated to the item in question. Incorrect descriptions also help. There is thinking that prices are lower at both ends of a large auction, particularly at the end as many bidders have departed. Maybe, maybe not. When the item comes up, the heart quicken...

I think the bucket was to accommodate spitting out your chewing tobacco prior to the photo. At least, that's what they're used for here in Tennessee.

Re: Machine Conversions

I'll let our cousins provide the definitive answer but I think it lies somewhere around the legalization of slot machines in Great Britain and the loss of appeal of these "quaint" relics from their past. By the way, Roger, I'll give you a free ride on my Concorde if you can convince the ot...

I don't think Shady Pines allows gambling, Roger. Better to ask for a case of prunes. Or maybe a new walker.

Ken was in the first vanguard of collectors who put time and effort into researching this genre and then worked to educate the rest of us. I met him once at a COCA convention (Coin Operated Collector's Association) many years ago. He was very approachable and what I regarded as a normal guy. His boo...
