Re: Working Model? Or Is This a One Off? Or?

Yup these are Insulls too, there is a superb video from Pathe, of Len Insull Snr (his first name was John but he went by Len) making a Animated Gnome display for a Department store, you can see the similarity in the style of the heads (mouth, eyes etc)....

Re: Working Model? Or Is This a One Off? Or?

I stand corrected, but to me it looks spot on insull, if you have a look at some of the Al Jolson or band working models, they are very similar. It could be Len Insull Jnr, but I'd imagine it was Snr (his father) who mainly made Vent Dummies.

Sorry there are different messages on the back too (see below) - I know someone mentioned once where these could be bought but I just can't find the details now anywhere.

Help with Fortune Teller machine cards

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know where I might be able to get fortune teller cards like the one pictured below for my machine. They measure 6.5cm high by 4.5 cm wide and are on card.

Any help really appreciated - thank you!

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

Managed to get the front panel off today. Unfortunately no key for the lock :( , but was able to unscrew the brackets holding it in place inside and then slide it out. So now I have managed to get some *hopefully* better pictures of the Coin Mechanism: treasurecave_coinmec1.jpg treasurecave_coinmec2...

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

Thanks again Stuart and Jerry for the help.

Stuart, I will get the front off this weekend and then get some better photos! Do you have an email address I could contact you on?

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

I think my question about the two 'gift doors' was misleading - I can see now that 'door' was probably not the right term. What I meant was the two flaps at the front of the machine, where the prizes are delivered.............why two? !PUZZLED! Sorry Jerry, after re-reading I see what you meant! Th...

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

Stuart, can't thank you enough - this is going to help so much. Thank you for taking the time to do this, and also for the link to the boxes and the magazine. Without wanting to take more of your time, I have tried to take some picture of the coin mechanism. It's difficult because from the back the ...

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

Hi Jerry, thanks so much for the confirmation of what is needed at the front! That's brilliant and shows why this forum is so good. So I now need to look for something similar to this picture below but takes sixpences! coin_mechanism.JPG I was under the impression there were two sizes of the Whales ...

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

It's really interesting to see the differences to the mechanics S. Thanks ever so much for posting that picture. How much of the original workings did you manage to keep in yours? I'm guessing most, if not all? There are some super Bakelite switches etc. inside it which I'd like to keep if possible....

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

Wow that looks amazing, you have done a superb job with your restoration. I'm going to have a go at the back glass panel, I've seen a few variations now. I'm also going to have a go at replacing the top glass panels that should look like this; treasure_cave_top.JPG (another variation on the back gla...

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

It really does weigh a lot! I think this must have been 'taken out of action' in the '60s, as it never got converted after 6d. There were still some old coins in the back and lots of prizes which were very '50s/'60s. I remember the one I saw at a fair here in Shropshire in the 1980s when I was a chi...

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

Hi! Thanks for the reply! I've liked the facebook page and signed the petition :D Happy to be here, have been reading as a 'guest' for a while! I'm from Shropshire in the West Midlands. The machine seems to have all 'its bits' inside, but some are a bit rusty - I'm not knowledgeable enough to know i...

Re: Treasure Cave (Elephant Gift Vender)

Hi all, I recently acquired one of the Treasure Cave machines (will get some pictures taken this week) I have a few questions which I will also post in the Questions and Answer category also in case this isn't the right place to ask! Does anyone know how the mechanics work or have photos of the insi...
