Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger restoration

Looks like this gets in your blood.....I just purchased two more old unrestored Buckley diggers from a picker in California. One is a Jewel Box, and the other is a Deluxe. Both are in a little rougher shape than what I started with on this last project. I should be able to bring both back to life th...

Buckley Digger Restoration

Topic moved & merged - Site Admin. With the help of a couple of folks on this Forum, I finally finished the restoration of the Buckley Jewel Box Digger that I have been working on for the past year. I started with pieces to this puzzle, and the intent was to do a simple restoration on what seem...

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

Definitely good advice for sure. I am building a framework for the new set of metalwork I got, so it will be a lot sturdier, and just as you said, I am going to do the prep work myself. My hope is the frame will keep them from catching the metal in the buffer again....it will be a little cumbersome ...

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

I know it has been a while since I posted about the digger, so I thought I would throw out an update. A lot has happened since I made the mold for the Buckley door.....I sent it to the foundry and the owner called to tell me it needed work, but he also told me he knew a guy that had good originals o...

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

The only pic I have here at work was during the creation phase, and was just short of the finished product. I added the actuating arm bracket later, added a small drawer pull on top of the lip on the lid, and changed out the little hinge hardware to more in line with what was in the pictures. Those ...

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

Since you brought it up.....I am getting ready to send the buckley door pattern I made off to be casted. The guy at the foundary told me 3/16" shrinkage for every foot of material. Since this door is a little over 5 inches, I left a generous 1/8" on the inside lip all the way around.....bu...

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

By the way... I would love to come over and take a look at it.... but the drive is just a bit too far and I think I might get wet in the process!

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

Great pictures, thanks so much for posting them. Jim did send me pics of a Treasure Chest door, so I know the lever, etc. I will check the foundary, thanks for sending the link. It will likely be a longshot, but worth a call. I have found a couple of people that own Jewel Box Diggers, and in looking...

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

Wow that is gorgeous! Is there any chance I can get some detailed pics from you all of the way around? I have a few questions about window trim, etc. I would especially be interested in detailed pics of the door. I may have to create one and have a casting made if all else fails. I hope the wood on ...

Re: Buckley Jewel Box Digger

Thanks for looking out for me on the e-mail. Yes, the door is the only thing missing...the casting is good, and the rest of the parts are there.......they may be covered with 45 coats of paint, but they are all there. I know finding a Jewel Box door is going to be a life-long journey, but I thought ...

Buckley Jewel Box Digger restoration

I recently found a Buckley Table-Top Jewel Box Digger while purchasing some slots from an estate. It is in pretty rough shape, but mostly all there, and it is going to be a fun restoration project. One thing I am missing is the front prize door, so if anyone has any old Buckley parts out there, plea...
