Re: Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...

My guess is that the machine should have a faceplate like the Jockey Club, something like. Everyone’s favourite as they are all different sports and were famous in each of their own skills... Maybe someone swapped out at some point. I always figured the builder that day just closed their eyes and g...

Re: More Money than Brains....

For what it's worth I believe all the best stuff turns up at Morphy's, I'd disagree Watling, many of the best pieces change hands privately. Some special collections like this one occasionally do end up in auction, often deceased estates since the family ave little idea, but also a lot of dogs with...

Re: Auction today

Only regret was not buying the Kalloscop... Tree, I think you meant to say you regret not having a few more bids on the Kalloscop, because unless you know the high bidder and he told you this was his limit, then you'd have no way of knowing what the high point might've been. I hear this all the tim...

Re: J.C. Vickery THE ROCKS stamp dispenser identified

The machine won't be called "The Rocks" but the hotel or commercial establishment it was located in was. I've seen quite a few counter top post boxes that were labelled similarly with the name of the location.

Re: More Money than Brains....

Not sure why the current prices in particular have your goat in a flurry Roger, because there have always been high priced machines. A friend of mine who was a major player in jukeboxes from 1974 onwards (he said that was too late to get involved mind you) has a great photo on his workshop wall take...

Re: More Money than Brains....

Well since this is the last of Mel Getlans world class collection going to auction there is indeed a precedent set by his first auction in 2012, when over 300 pieces sold for a million dollars! Mel had one of the top 5 collections ever put together, known for rarity and fine condition, and most of t...

Re: Ice Hockey table players' sticks cut down?

Not having worked on a Rockola version I can't say what the men are made of, but on the half a dozen different brands I've had all were bronze, which I'd think this is too. Just place a magnet to test if it's cast iron. Not a big issue whatever it's made of to repair as both can be brazed no prob wi...

Re: Barrel of Fun

Well guys, just like every other conspiracy in history this one played out just perfectly! By us laying that machine especially suited to one JP right under his nose we well and truly suckered him back into the fold of loyal Penny Machine collectors! And being a Yank, he'll never suspect a thing.......

Re: Barrel of Fun

Forgot to mention the payout cup was likely salvaged from a Bajazzo/Clown. And presumably the payout and handle mech from an Allwin. The pediment hangs too far over the side edges which I've never seen on a production piece as just asking to get snapped off. So definitely pieced together from leftov...

Re: Barrel of Fun

The barrels and rhd mech looks very similar to John's machine, but the rest appears to be a later revamp in the 20's or 30's, and converted to payout Pennies.
