Re: Elephant House Auctions

You've probably had the email today from Steve but if not, it points to a basic draft of his proposed website URL+REMOVED+BY+SITE+ADMIN#/index.php?option=example Looks to me like it will be a sort of cross between the Pennymachines Market and eBay but I'm not clear how it would work. Either way Stev...

Re: 50 years today

Going back to decimalisation, I had stopped playing the slots by that time (starting new job got in the way :( ) so was only used to the old penny machines. What happened with the changeover? Did the operators immediately convert their machines to take new pence in which case any punters putting the...

Re: 50 years today

Decimalisation certainly greatly contributed to inflation, largely because of the trick of continuing to use the Penny as a unit of currency. In the old pound there were 240 pennies to the pound but with decimalisation the powers that be changed this to a handy 100 new pence. So immediately 1new pen...

Re: Mills Cherry?

OK -well I have a few more pics of the one up for auction at Wotton and I think I'll give it a miss as it looks like too much work and I don't trust that I could do it justice but in case it's of interest to any other forum members I've attached the pics. The report says "Will need recommission...

Mills Cherry?

I don't have experience of Bandits (apart from a Jubilee Rivierra I once bought) as I normally dabble with Allwins, but I saw this one coming up on a local auction and wondered if it was worth a gamble. From my very limited Bandit knowledge I assume it is a Mills Cherry (?) but that's as far as I've...

Re: Elephant House Auctions

I'm sure many of you will have received Steve Hunt's email letting us know that his mum Gloria, the Elephant House auctioneer, sadly passed away last August and that his dad also now has cancer. Those of us who attended the auctions will remember her with affection and admire her courage in carrying...

Re: Am I missing something here?

Agreed - as an example there's 10 Allwins in the Cottees auction in Poole in Dorset on Saturday but no way of going to see them so would have to rely on bidding blind. I sold one on eBay before Christmas but wouldn't risk it again now (especially as it took me 2 months to get a permit !!GRUMP!!

Re: Coventry Spring Auction 22nd March 2020

This is an intriguing comment on the EH site (which could be of interest to Coventry auction setter-uppers) - any suggestions what Steve might have in mind !PUZZLED! Or is he just playing mind games? Or Maybe...? This break has though given us time to think of an entirely new way of bringing buyers ...

Re: Where have all the slots gone?

I did have a dispute with eBay a couple of years back, Arrgee, and this was their comment: Firstly, I would like to inform you that gaming machine listings are permitted only from licensed sellers (who mention their licence number in the listing) or if the machine is completely non-functioning and b...

Re: Where have all the slots gone?

Thanks for the advice clubconsoles but sadly I did go down that route before applying for a permit and within 3 days eBay not only pulled the item off but threatened me that if I did it again my account would be suspended :tut . Within the time it was listed it had over 30 views and I had an offer o...

Re: Where have all the slots gone?

Just a word of caution for anyone thinking of applying for a single machine permit from the Gambling Commission so that eBay will allow them to list an Allwin - don't hold your breath! I applied in September and, several emails and phone calls later, am still waiting. Latest is it's awaiting sign-of...

Re: Pilwin Restoration

OK - Silly question time - I've managed to convert the Pilwin 56 back to its original old penny payout (with many thanks to Lenny at Retro !!THUMBSX2!! ) instead of the (to me) cheap feel of the new penny it had been converted to, and thought I had finished, then I realised, having set it with the s...

Re: Pilwin Restoration

I acquired a Pilwin 56 last year and have just got round to looking at bringing it back to life. The backflash was beyond repair so have had to replace that but otherwise all fittings seem to be original apart from a conversion at some time in the past to new pence - shame, as the original 1d slot i...
