Re: Talk about weighting around!
A few photos of the cabinet side and back plus a few close-ups of the front castings. Nice eagle on the lower front. I like the fact it isn't over the top fussy and ornate like a clamshell Muto.

Re: Talk about weighting around!
Hey Jingle, what was the machine to the left of your Ahrens scale? Never seen one before.

Re: Talk about weighting around!
Ok, awesome day Monday. Picked up my scale and it all worked out better than I'd hoped. Since it was a true antique I didn't pay any duty or tax, only a couple of small agents fees - alright. The scale is much lighter than I thought. The Salter cast irons literally weigh a ton, while this one on a s...

Re: Talk about weighting around!
Jingle - no card payout on mine. I never knew the Ahrens had that, I've seen a pic of one showing the mech but you couldn't tell. And the BAC had a dial so both the companies were covering their bases in case the sound faulted.

Re: Talk about weighting around!
Hey PM I feel very lucky! !THUMBS! I've always wanted to own a talking scale. I really dig the wackier pieces. Thank you for the pics as I'd never even heard of the BAC version before. I'd love an Ahrens machine as I'm also huge deco fan. I have the record already and two dubbed copies on 12" 7...

Re: Building a Payramid
In a rush but just took some pics for you. Can measure the cabinet on the weekend if somebody else hasn't beaten me to it. The award plate and jackpot are seperate casting than the centre one. Colour appears to be bronze. Hopefully these help a little. Admirable challenge you've set yourself! cheers.

Re: Talk about weighting around!
Ha, my talking scale decided to take a holiday before moving in. Currently lounging around the freight terminal of Brunei airport! Booked in for Fri arrival though.

Re: Talk about weighting around!
Yeah, it's a special record with 2 pounds difference every groove, up to 250 pounds. This scale is early at 1904 but the really cool thing is this one was made in the US for export, with 1 Penny enamel sign and the record is spoken with an English accent! Obviously someone ordered enough that they d...

Re: Earth Satellite
Hey PM, I've always looked at it that if you're collecting for the long term then some machines will be bargains, some will be on the money and some will be a little over, unless you have very deep pockets of course. But it all evens out over a number of years. And of course things do change the lon...

Re: barrels machine
Different machine to John's which is an antique. (He did a stunning job on that resto!) I've seen a few of these later barrels machines and they look 30s or 40s to me.

Re: Retreeva
JP, it got the name of "Behemoth", which would infer not so little, maybe Widowmaker would be more apt?! My body doesn't seem to mend like it once did.

Re: Retreeva
My girlfriend loves machines and all the mayhem that comes with them. She bought her first machine recently in fact. My yard is especially messy since we had a perfect hail storm earlier this year - causing much trouble. Otherwise my backyard is pretty standard Aussie fare. I do have a little skate ...

JP - GOOD LORD - don't even think of trying to walk in there barefoot, I cut glass on the floor all the time and it's a minefield of tiny shards all over the place. I buy vintage mirrors at my local dump for a few dollars and use them for my restos. If you hold the glass side on you can find the ear...

Re: Retreeva
Almost finished my Retreeva cabinet, just a tad more aging to get it right. Though what a hell of a job! This was a rough cabinet to start with and had to be pulled right down and needed much gluing of veneer, a new back and base. This is probably the most costly cabinet I've ever painted if you tak...

Re: Mills Vest Pocket
I'm sure you're right BP, they do look like a small radio. Though how long did that ruse last? Here's this one done. Once I find the back door for my Sega I think i'll just polish the aluminium cabinet up. I've done that a couple of times with little US trade stims and especially the deco ones look ...

Re: Mills Vest Pocket
Hey Marktol, cheers for the link, I got the flap (and door) for $16! On another issue, I had to do some pot metal welding to the back door as it had warped and cracked slightly. After this i then needed to repaint the machine. It had decent original hammered metal paint in pale blue and gold. But af...

Re: Mills Vest Pocket
Hey there, I decided last night to pull out my Mills Vest Pocket that was shelved in disgust 4 years ago due to constant jamming. Currently trying to figure out the issue/s. One problem is I need the special tool as shown below. I made this one and even though i know it's close it might be a little ...

Re: Retreeva
Hey bob, thanks for your help. Guess my cabinet interior stain was original then since the plywood they used is naturally light blonde. Interesting the way they painted the mechs on these - the whole door was assembled first onto the mahogany frame and then they just sprayed the whole thing, with ov...
