Re: Chrome through the post?
Malc, have you tried London and Brighton plating Co. in North St. Portslade. I have used them a few times and found them to be okay, turnaround about 7-10 days. Not sure if they do a postal service though but reasonably local for you. Kevin Button (director) is the chap to speak to on 01273 418122.

Re: Wonders Feast
Yes Coin-op, I did mean Spin a Win as I had indicated in my post 8.36pm May 8 but my faux pas was on Friday 13th so that's my excuse!

Re: Wonders Feast
Results are in:- Win and Place £514, fair enough. Chip or Bust £1038, Spin a Win £1038. Is it odd that same buyer won the Chip and the Spin, same price, same number of bids and was close to winning W&P? Or maybe just a couple of new Wonders fanatics? Certainly appears to make last year's Chip or...

Re: Wonders Feast
Yes Terry, they were on ebay; the Chip or Bust in May and the Spin a Win in July. Any views on the lack of roof on the Spin a Win - would that have held the price/interest down?

Re: Wonders Feast
The Spin a Win seems highly priced at £750 as one went for £530 this time last year and was in better condition with regard to the chrome and glass and had a good cabinet and backflash but I believe it didn't have a traditional Wonders roof but I've heard that this can sometimes be the way with Wond...

Re: Watling or Mills?
So it is pre 1945 possibly 1920s or 1930s and well over almost 100 years old - better get my logarithm tables out for that one.

Re: First ever Wonders Allwin?
Getting back into the vein of the original post, anybody got any ideas as to Wonders first allwin? e.g. 24 cup?

Re: Imperial allwin auction
I like the idea (of swaledalesots) of staining with spirit dye and then Brywax, or even good old Danish oil, this way, should go too far wrong. For me and I suspect many novices, dragging it across driveways and bashing it to give it some age would be daunting to say the least for fear of it looking...

Re: Imperial allwin auction
I was at the auction of this machine and went specifically to bid on it but as a newby I felt the price was a bit high for me to know quite what to do with it, having no special skills. When I saw the 'restoration' I thought oh no! I would have left the cabinet as it was, riddled with woodworm and s...

Re: Which clown?
Ah-ah, found that press cutting from London Gazette, June 1916, but there is another one from the same paper dated November 1917 with the same wording but the meeting on another date - does the plot thicken?

Re: Which clown?
Thanks PM for your time and patience, it has cleared up a lot of clown issues. I find all that law and company stuff fascinating - how on earth did you manage to dig up the press cutting re the liquidation?

Re: Which clown?
I don't get it - Braithwaite says the court case was against Pessers Moody and Co. rather than PMWG. Also if PMWG was wound up in 1916, how come in Nic Costa's book, page 204, it shows a picture of a motor car game by PMWG in 1924? This is also in Braithwaite's book under PMWG-1924.

Re: Which clown?
PM - sorry to go on, but I previously stated my Clown had PMWG on the sides, when in actual fact on the right hand side it has the serial number not PMWG. As you have previously stated that German Clowns had a number on the right, can it be assumed this was German made (Jentzsch and Meerz?) and impo...

Re: Which clown?
So we can assume PMWG did actually manufacture clowns as opposed to just import them and then stamp them?

Re: Which clown?
Penny machines - I read with great interest your write up on PMWG as I have a clown with this branded on both sides [as per your photo] also on the inside of the back and on the top is the serial number 3322B. The Braithwaite book [page 87] indicates the firm was live for longer than you sugest as i...

Re: Which clown?
If you go to the Bajazzo Clown thread in Questions and Answers: there are 4 pages of good info including serial numbers and the damper (piston) assembly. Note also the position of the bell hammer which should strike when you win - not sure your machine has this? They are quite often on ebay: just ty...

Re: My first Allwin
Bit of a joint effort of a Wondermatics case and BMCo or Oliver Whales castings and mechanism possibly? Restorationwise-varnish stripper, sandpaper, stain and a piece of oak for the cash door I guess. I'm sure there there will be people on here that can give you more in depth help.
