Re: 3 wire Mercury tilt switch
Thanks Slotalot, I've done similar with a French crane I restored to work the turntable. There are special curved castings in the viewers that the mercury switches attach to, so I guess if I can't find any originals I could heat and bend some plastic tubing to replicate the shape.

3 wire mercury tilt switch
Since i was totally underwhelmed with the response to my Shakespeare fortune cards query I decided to give you guys another chance - can't be any worse :#: Just about to restart some unfinished restorations on a batch of Aussie 3D viewers I got years ago. All missing parts but as I already had a com...

Re: Watling or Mills?
Good call Bandito - you can see the small hole right above the jackpot in the upper casting for the mint vendor front to lock in place. But the revamper did a good job as they copied the Watling payout holes in the front casting and cups perfectly.

Re: Print block
Very coincidental that the 500 quid high bidder has only bid on one other item recently, a bouncy castle - and what do you know, the printing block seller deals in bouncy castles!!?

Re: Watling or Mills?
I was wondering about this machine too. I looked through a few books last night and it seems to be related closely to the Watling Lincoln Deluxe. That window to the left of the reels is a future pay feature. And if you look closely there appears to be a small cicular blanked off hole on the bottom r...

I've never worked on a Jennings mech but the case looks an honest machine to me. Without pics of the inner case and mech from all angles only the seller knows how complete it is. He says it runs on 1D.

Miniature Cricket anyone....?
Just wondering if anyone in the UK has one of these machines? Usually it's called Miniature Baseball but this version was specially made for export to cricket playing nations. Two have turned up in Aust so it seems logical that some made it to Britian. When my friend found this one at a swap meet in...

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????
Glad to help. We once bought an otherwise nice 70's E/M pinball that the owner said he sprayed some kind of contact cleaning shit onto, then shut the playfield and turned the machine on instantly! KaBoom., and the thing went up in flames because the door was open and it burnt for a minute or two. Lo...

Re: Top Gun Marshall
Yes, I meant upside-down, though I thought it made sense by what else I said about the image. The sound of the machine guns wasn't supplied by the film, obviously that only sounded when pressing the fire button - the film supplied the sound of the airplanes in dog fight. My guess is, the Mablethorpe...

Re: Top Gun Marshall
This is from the manual and shows the stereo imagery that was used in the machine. The film from Mablethrope appears to have been scanned upside down as the vertical index position (black notch) is shown on the left of the image, when it should be on the far right side of the right hand image. And s...

Re: Top Gun Marshall
How strange, this piece of film isn't in stereo??? The machine can't have worked properly with only a mono image as you wouldn't have seen the depth of the stereo film. I'll scan a piece later to show the difference.

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????
The Clean green is just a bulk grease removing water based cleaner i buy from a large hardware chain here. I use this as my everyday cleaner, great for removing dirt from old cabinets, painted or wood etc. I guess since it's ok for the enviroment it must be quite mild, rarely does it damage anything...

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????
Heres a few pics of my 40's Goalee mechs showing before and after. First i blew as much dirt off as possible with my compressor and a brush. Then hand scrubbed with a cloth and brush using Clean Green, then another go with the Enzymes. And I wasn't going overboard here to make this look new or anyth...

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????
I've restored hundreds of arcade machines using cloth wiring and I've never had any problems with it at all. If the cloth can't handle a simple cleaning then it would already have to be totally rotten and would need to be replaced anyway. Cloth wiring lasts extremely well. But the wiring with only a...

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????
Water-cotton-electrics doesn't sound a good combination to me. I would be tempted to try something like PC screen wipes or a general Pound Shop impregnated cleaning cloth where the moisture content will evaporate on use. Obviously you don't turn the machine on straight afterwards. And all the coin ...

Hey guys, was in my garage early this week looking for spare parts and moved a few machines around to better use the space. Spent some time looking at this little treasure and finally decided, enough was enough! It's been patiently awaiting it's turn on the operating table for the last 6 years. Even...

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????
Done this too with my compressor, hot water and degreaser. Then used Shellite to remove the moisture, then stuck in a room with a heater to dry asap. But you have to be careful of any paper labels and the paper coil coverings, as they soften with moisture and will rip off from the pressure.

Re: Cleaning cotton covered wire????
There are a few ways that work for me. I've just been restoring a 1946 Chicago Coin Goalee game and the wiring was all grey. First I hand clean with a household degreaser called Clean Green, thick green coloured cleaner that's ok for the enviroment. I water it down though and use it through a spray ...

Re: Mills/Bolands screen stars
You were dead on PM! Another reply from the seller today: I got the information from Don Creekmore of Nation's Attic, who did the formal appraisal on the slot machine. A quote from his appraisal includes, "This machine call The Film Stars, was made in 1940 in the Mills Chicago, IL factory. Bein...
