Unknown cast iron machine stand & stereoscope mech
Hey there, just been re-organising and cleaning out one of my storage sheds and came across this stand I own, well the top half anyway. It came from a huge old time collection in the UK so I'm pretty sure it's for a machine of some kind - maybe a Mutoscope?? The inner lip measures 8 - 7/8" wide...

Re: Caille / Clement & Whales Countertop disc machines
I've just read this whole discourse on the "Caille" wheel style machines and have found it quite interesting. Especially having never owned any of the variants, though I have had the chance to, just passed on every one within my grasp due to the Greyhound style revamping which didn't inter...

Re: Found Clown penny slot at the tip in 1977
Jason, I think this is a lot older than the '50s. Don't have time to search my library at the moment, but looks like an earlier version, especially with the ornate brass spandrels.

Re: The August Quiz - £5 prize.
Good lord, fish in a barrel! The two brackets were originally used on the cases of Stevenson and Lovett "Conveyor" and "Sky Jump" machines, if they're made of pressed steel, if made of plated brass then they were re-cast later and added by some operator to various Allwin cases fo...

Badpenny, I thought this was a coin-op forum!? Judging by the base of that "Baromoter" I'd say it's a barometer of body weight not atmospheric conditions!hottoddy wrote:yet the barometer (or whatever it is) suggests it's the same view?

NZ manufacture, late '60s or '70s. The formica is always a giveaway but NZ went decimal in 1967, while Aust was a year earlier. They also call these Flap Ball sometimes.

Re: Domino / Lucky Dice / Le Juge de Paix
Marco, I've seen a number of these in collections particularly in the US and have had the chance to buy quite a few over the years, but never have. Probably seen at least 15 examples of major conversions by UK operators into Roll out the Barrel, Soccer themed versions, most with new streamlined case...

Re: Seven mysteries of the Saxony allwin
Mr PM, I restored a totally original Reserve Ball machine many years ago and had figured out that flap quite quickly at the time, but it's been a while since then! I seem to remember that it was there to stop you playing a ball until you'd done something first like payout? I've only ever found one R...

Re: German monkey metal grip test ???
Don't suppose anybody recognises those cast iron legs and has a set that have been recycled for use on something else? Haha, worth a try. Another job to add to my project list......

Awesome!! Thanks to everybody thus far for helping out. The original advertising is always a huge bonus to see how things once looked. Clive's may or may not have the original legs compared with the ad?

Re: German monkey metal grip test ???
Slotalot, cool, thanks for that! And that machine has lost the handles too, might well have been a weak point in the design making one snap over time so they deleted the option.

German monkey metal grip test ???
Hey - just picked this up a few days ago in my travels across the US. Was staying with the great John Peterson and we visited a local collector who had this machine sitting in his warehouse. One of the those cases when I couldn't leave without it! But I've never seen this one before so I'll need to ...

I think this one is OK, later 30s from memory but don't have any books with me right now. Have never seen this version copied before. It's an expensive machine to do as that mech is quite complicated.

Re: Reproduction or not?
I'm sure Mills never made a 'run through' version for the 1d and the ones that you do see are a 50c conversion? Silverbitz, funnily enough I always thought it was the other way around, and the few 50 cent War Eagles that turn up in the States were probably just re-converted English 1D machines sent...

Re: Art deco slot machine found, seeking advice on value
Andy, in the US, when equipment aged the operators just bought new machines, hence little repainting. But overseas the machines had a much long operating life, and re-painting, not so much for the punters, but mostly to appease the site owners, who always wanted the newest possible. Can't tell you h...

Re: A Very Loose Slot
Hey Coppinpr, I've been thinking about this too and Andy has some good ideas going. Would help us all if you could take some good mech photos showing the relevant parts so we can look for anything out of the ordinary. I've had some weird payout sequences over the years but only short lived. And afte...

Good Grief - you might as well have said you've just learnt how to speak English! Don't know how you've been collecting machines without it all these years. Awesome little book with so much info in there it's crazy. I have a coin-op library of about 60+ books but this is the dirtiest and worn of the...

Hi Highjon, the photo you linked to shows a lovely original enamel sign on top but the glass looks like a very plain replacement. The original mirrors are far superior. I've also seen some models with a stunning enamel sign in place of the glass too. Good luck buying it!
