Re: Getting so much done ..
Hey BadPenny - I operated a Cupids Arrow for a few years and it did really well. Part of that was the way I set it up. I adjusted the damper very slow, so the arrow stopped by itself and not by the notched wheel. So this meant sometimes the arrow was right in between fortunes. Then about 5 to 10 sec...

Re: "Dog Races" - Uncommonly unique and unknown
All ESSEX machines do not have the look, style, age, or mechanism of this DOG RACE Roger it's easy to say the above, but then you make no claims to back that up. It seems your whole case is based on one piece of flimsy evidence - Exhibit A - the "coin cup". And then the fact that it doesn...

Re: "Dog Races" - Uncommonly unique and unknown
Ahh, Penny Machines - pre-determined payout hey, then my offer on the spare Motorcycle Exchange (that I'm sure your're using as a door stop to your garden shed) - just went down. In fact I was told the owner of this Greyhound example was asking $30,000! Good grief, don't think that will happen, even...

Re: Australian Wineasies & showman's paint
Thanks for all the photos Bob, have seen them over the years but forgotten most. And how cool is the basic showmans paint, they really liked a simple two tone. Not quite up to the standards of the British showmen's painters.

Re: AUSTRALIAN FLUSH TOILET
Australian Flush toilet?? Me thinks you jest. All we have down here is a hole in the ground covered in old corrugated iron - called a thunderbox!

Re: Showman's Paint
That BMCO Moon and Stars Penny shoot is the same one I bought out of NZ a few years ago Bob. And I seem to remember him saying something about it having come from Aust? Though someone stripped it and stained a darker colour.

Re: UK bandits painted cases??
Haha, Andy - cannot tell you how mant times I've stripped back the most lame and awful over-painting to find an almost perfect original design surviving underneath, sometimes with only the smallest damge. Yet somebody thought it was a great idea to "smarten" that up at some time! I've alwa...

Re: "Dog Races" - Uncommonly unique and unknown
I just posted a pic of an Essex Stock Exchange in another thread. Please note that the handle backing plate is the same as on this greyhound game. The payout cup is the same style used on some Essex machines, I've seen at least 3 x diff styles of cup. Also note that the payout cup is mounted into th...

Re: Talk about weighting around!
Talking of talking scales.......visited a high end collector in the states a few weeks ago and he had a working example of my talking scale! I must've used it about 6 times - very cool. I've since been told it's one of the only examples that does work. I told the owner I had the export version and w...

Chicagoland
Went to the show last weekend and had a great time! Wasn't expecting much in the way of games but really just to catch up with many collector friends from across the US and to make new ones. So many interesting people and then machines and other stuff to keep me busy. It's no wonder the US collectio...

Jingle - same game, it's the owner who had the talkie scale and two Brenner deco machines.

Re: Showman's Paint
Bob, what about a few pics of the Aussie versions with the cast face, SS LUNA I think? I found the registered design for them. Very cool for a non British Allwin/Wineasy.

Re: Old coin catcher
I was wondering the same thing, but the photos aren't big enough to see the detail. Though if you look at the interior shot and roof shot you can see two filled holes the same dia as the token tube on the lhd. So I imagine there was a seperate payout originally, probably the centre payout was the hi...

Re: Slots in Australia.
Andy, there are actually quite a lot of coin-op collectors in Aust with early slots, you'd be surprised. And I'm sure quite a few I don't know about. There just isn't an easy way to find many of them except for word of mouth amongst other collectors.

Re: Anyone got some brass tubing?
Scrap metal yards are awesome for this type of stuff. I rarely ever buy brand new brass - alloy - steel - stainless - tin - plastic - glass etc etc for anything, just pick it up whenever I can for a fraction of the price too. And a another big reason for me is that the scrap has age so blends in wit...

Re: $40,000 and reserve not met yet !!!
Makes my quest to find one arm bandits around the £100 mark look completely inconsequential and pointless!!! Ha, I've often thought the same thing, especially when visiting million dollar collections. But I have to say that particularly in the US a lot of people here get quite blase because of the ...

Re: $40,000 and reserve not met yet !!!
Amazingly enough I've seen this machine in person and played it. I certainly don't value it as highly as the seller does or the handful of other collectors that have pushed the value up to this point. I think that as the older collectors disappear from the hobby we'll see these prices drop on a numb...

i also believe that 99 percent of the people on this web site have seen an item on ebay and asked for a buy it now price at sometime of there lives, well there just as guilty as the seller removing it,,,, Well, I haven't in all my years, so I'm either incredibly honest or more probably just down ri...
