Re: Job lot at auction

Essex made monkey climbers, but I don't think they were as wide as this one. More like a crane-size case.

Re: Davy Jones penny pusher - Help!

It makes the machine interesting to me. CAM Automatics (and MAC, before them) were based at Seaham Harbour, which is one of my boyhood haunts. I've never liked pushers. I think perhaps the principle was a little too basic; but this one was small, early (as pushers go), familiar, and not damaged by t...

Re: Bandit at 1818 Auctioneers

It was within collection distance, and I'd have given £420 for it, had it been offered to me at that price.
It wasn't, so I didn't.

Re: Davy Jones penny pusher - Help!

I never realised that this machine was by CAM Automatics of Seaham Harbour.
I was the under-bidder, too.
I'd certainly have gone up to £350 if I'd known!

Re: Caille 4 reeler

It's probably been blanked-off. The first reel was only used for the Grand Prize, which had to be claimed from the attendant as there was no payout disc for it.
Most operators gave up on it, once the novelty had worn off.

It needs six losses per win to break even, by my reckoning.
Not a big earner by Allwin standards. Almost as bad as my Easy Perm, which often 'runs out'.

Re: Philip Shefras? allwins

I looked at that at the time. If I'd read this thread earlier, I'd have bid. I think the 'module' providing 'retro sounds' (?) put me off.
I have a Jackpot, with the distinctive control panel casting. In the light of what we now know, can we safely credit it to Philip Shefras?

Re: Amusement machine trade fair, 1962/4

Excellent photos. The 6 (?) player machine with the octagonal display is one of the 'lost' machines of my early arcade days, and had a very distinctive sound. It was usually on 'fruits', although the pictured example is on 'letters', a hang-over from the association with US organized crime. What is ...

Nice machine. 26% on top, if you win it.
Can't bid unless you register your credit or debit card details.
I'll give it a miss.

Re: Bally Money Tree

The nuts are inside the door, fastening the belly glass frame strips to the other side. There are lots of them, and it's difficult to see which ones hold the frame, and which hold other components inside the frame. On mine, taking off the nuts didn't ease the frame, and so I had no idea whether or n...

Re: Bally Money Tree

The belly glass has to come off to change the lighting tubes. There are numerous small nuts to undo, after which it usually doesn't come loose. It's generally stuck solid, and you have to ease it slowly, round and round, trying not to break anything. I've just remembered why I lost interest in these...

You could edit the letter 'P' to make a 'D', the opposite to what the 'decimalizers' did in '71.

The existing penny badge could be 'de-decimalized' quite easily, until the right one could be found.

Looks to me as if it pays 2-4-6-8-10 PLUS the Jackpot, which is 5x2 plus jp.
A bit more complicated, but not insurmountable.
