Unusual UK conversion on a Jennings

Post by coppinpr »

Ths not very nice UK conversion on a nice Jennings governor light up struck me as unique as it has both "BARS" and "TIC TAC TOE" (some of the BARs are also marked with TIC,TAC or TOE but not all (you can see one on the first photo). The owner has decided to replace the nasty top glass with something a little more traditional once I can work out how the jackpot and "pays any position" work with the different symbols. !PUZZLED!

The name at the top say it all, Fantasia who made reproduction Jennings, especially light ups as well as Jubilee Rivieras. Fantasia were part of TPG, Terrence Powell group, but not sure it is still in operation. False escalator, jackpot, probably repro casting and light up panels and is it not a Jubilee mechanism in there !PUZZLED! They later did full electronic versions.....

I would say what you have there is a total reproduction and not a conversion of a Jennings Governor, no offence!

Liberty sell others machines I believe, at a premium

Here is another oddly turned up online at auction.....I reckon they also use the Jubilee handles as well....Jennings of course use straight club handles

Think the last picture shows classic Mini Maxi symbols on strips and award card.

A direct quote from The Liberty website detailed above ......
"An original Jennings one arm bandit that has been fully reproduced in the UK " Ok that's fine, I see that ummm, no ... err, hang on!

"Now these fun and reliable machines are being restored here in the UK " I see, so they are restored and not copies, I got confused by the first quote.

"This is a reproduction Jennings cabinet with a bright polished aluminium finish" Behave yourselves!

Features:

Reproduced Jennings one arm bandit slot machine
Converted into Indian Poker reproduction theme, complete with stunning artwork
Restored in the UK by trained technicians with years of experience

I think I understand finally.
You are making reproduction cabinets which you describe as original.
Having done that you then err, convert them? Is that right?
Finally you restore them? Yes?
Tell us more about your " trained technicians with years of experience" What are they trained in? And exactly how many years experience have they in something? And what is it?

Your website ends with Further Information under which is a link titled - Need some help? Take a look at our One Arm Bandits Buying Advice. Clicking it reveals (Roll on the drums) ..... nothing!

The biggest missing link in my view however is the total lack of any mention concerning the mechanism, perhaps they assume we already know they use Jubilees. If so why insult everyone's intelligence with the weaselly words and contradictions spouted over the case?

It's certainly not mine!! I don't think the owner is a collector. I think it's just a piece of interesting furniture that he wants to make look a bit better... and it will! Almost anything would make it look better.

Now that would be a cool feature, turning a repro Jennings (or other spare cabinet) machine into a toilet cistern '!' ....by the way I am being serious, next project on its way.

I don't think he wants to sell it... I think he likes it !
Now if you really want to shriek and pull your hair out at the terrible things people do to traditional machines... now's your chance...
I just finished these top and belly glasses for this man's classic motor cycle spares showroom and I rather like it. !SAINT!

The Jennings or should I say repro Jennings with Jubilee mech finished today at Adam Partridge's sale and made an incredible £1240  I am sure when sold by the company who made them, they sold them for less than that.... Wow...

They also sold a Sega Lite Up, again with a Jubilee mechanism in it and the most expensive Nostalgic machine yet. The Sega/Jubilee sold for £1200 and the repro allwin for £700. I would rather have one of the current oak reproduction machines which look much better quality from Retro Arcade.

So repro machines are the way to go, or are people desperate (or ill informed)?

I think ill informed. They believe they are buying original machines. If they knew the Nostalgia machines were made in China, don't think they would touch them.

Those Win a Mints have always fetched good money. I had one a few years ago, sold it for £450, & used the money to buy a Whales Win a Chew for £350!

I agree, it can only be an example of how dangerous a little knowledge can be.
I imagine within time either the buyer (or the person he off-loads onto) will appear on here asking for history and assistance.

People with holiday money burning a hole in their pockets, ooh that looks nice, always wanted a bandit and now I can afford one. Reminds me of a car I sold. Spent ages getting it ready for sale and sorting out the brakes ready for test drives. First guy that came looked at it and said, “those wheel trims are the best I’ve seen on one of these, I’ll have it!”

People only see what they want to see if they want something enough. If you’re thinking of selling bandits now is the time to do it. Carpe diem.
