Sega Mad Money face
Sega Mad Money face
Does anyone know what this little fella is called, the little face that appears on Sega machines.
Or better still, does someone have a good scan or a picture of him?
I am attempting to make some reel strips for a Mad Money and will post them in the archives if I do them successfully.

One of the earliest machines produced by Sega, the Mad Money was branded after the popular MAD Magazine. Alfred E. Neuman, the magazine's fictional cover boy and mascot, is prominently featured on the machine's attraction display.

Re: Sega Mad Money face
I guess you're younger than us. We grew up with Alfred E. and his adopted catch line "Wot me worry".
The interesting thing as far as the Sega slot machine is that Sega made these machines for the US market then found they breached Mad Mag copyright and they were never sold there, only Aus and Europe.

Do you have a source for that coppinpr?coppinpr wrote:Sega made these machines for the US market then found they breached Mad Mag copyright and they were never sold there, only Aus and Europe.
According to Wikipedia, Mad Magazine was itself sued a number of times for copyright of the Alfred E Neuman image, which had been copyrighted back in 1914 by Harry Stuff.
Completely Mad, Little Brown, 1991...the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that, by allowing many copies of the image to circulate without any copyright notice, the owner of the copyright had allowed the image to pass into the common domain, thus establishing the right of Mad – or anyone else for that matter – to use the image. In addition, Stuff was not himself the creator of the image, other examples dating back to before the turn of the 20th century.

Interestingly Alfred had a much earlier life on machines! Caille was using his image around 1904 on these machines at least.

Re: Sega Mad Money face
I did read it on a site about Sega and in an article about the guy in charge at the time, but it was about two years ago and I can't remember what I was looking for at the time so I can't track it down. I remember it said it caused them a big problem at the time, some machines having already been shipped and it was decided not to try and release the machine in the USA because of copyright. This may mean, I guess, that they were just concerned about possible legal action so played safe or perhaps the court case took so long to be heard (as usual) they had made other arrangements by then. Did read it, will try and track it down.

quote from the listing
THIS RING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE IT HAS BEEN WORN.
I wonder why???????
On second thoughts, I'd wear it so everybody thought I was good looking.
