Jennings Governor lighting

Post by tomo55 »

Hi,
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what lighting I should put in my Jennings Indian head machine? I bought it without any lighting in. Only the metal bulb holders are in the top.

I haven’t looked in one for a long time, but the lighting is usually multi fluorescent tubes attached inside lighting up top, award plate and reels. Below maybe what the arrangement should look like.

If missing transformer etc, you can of course buy bits to replace or choose low voltage strips that a lot of people also seem to use. This is of course a personal choice......personally I love the hum and buzz of old lights.

Original sets are around (I have one set to sell myself) and new replacement ballasts of several types can be found on ebay. If safety is a prime consideration (kids around etc.), you might like to consider the new solid state style control that replaces the old style ballast/choke. These are very cheap and work perfectly, see below.

Thank you for the response. Does anyone have a photo of where the old lights and fittings, starter etc. should be fitted?
Thanks

I am bumping your post as I know you have asked twice and there must be a member on here that can take the time to pull the mech on their Governor to take a picture of the light location. Mine are in storage, so I cannot help, but I reckon one tube must be above or below reel window and one behind top award panel. I know Jennings had lightbox covers for the award play to the right of the reel window with bulbs for lighting, but not sure if this was pre governor... Anyone can help :didact:

That's great, I can install the lighting now. Thank you both for your help.
