Post by special when lit »

Just seen this on a F/B group, wondered if anyone knows what it came off?

I don't have an Arnold game sadly... !UPSET!
Apart from that green metal-cased one, the only other one I've seen is in the States now I think.
I did get a nice jumper for Christmas though. :D

I have to admit getting the sign before it was posted on here, but waited for it to arrive, it has certainly been through the wars as per the below condition when it was found. Apparently it was discovered on a building site in Margate, maybe one of the hoards of machines destroyed. I sort of wondered if the rest of the machine could have been under there, but apparently not :!?!:

Anyway, tried to straighten it further as wanted to frame it, which I have now done in a faux ebonised wooden frame which I made for it. Sadly I lost part of the word Essex in the process, but at least if I can’t afford the whole machine I have a small part and from my home town

I saw another Essex Southend based slot machine enamel sign appeared on eBay this time from the Essex Auto Manufacturing Company. I did ask the seller where it came from and apparently the seller was a scrap dealership and this was picked up with a load from a farm in Lincs and got damaged in the grab where it was noticed. Alas no machine.....how bizarre, two in a short space of time...

It is a shame, but I guess it is a survivor and the words are still there......makes you wonder what is buried out there.

Well someone scored. That's a rare sign and would love it on my wall near any shock machine! Can't say I can picture an Essex shocker? Braithwaite book lists an "Electricity Is Life" by them dated "1927?".
