Duomat Knob Rotation

Post by oldvic »

I've nearly finished restoring the Duomat machine which has been sitting in my cellar for 25 years, and I have a question about the red knob. Mine is stuck. My question is this:

Does the knob rotate on the metal spindle which passes through it, or is the turning point at the back of the spindle where it is attached to the handle?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Yes, it should be rotating freely on the metal shaft.

That’s what I thought. Thank you.

All I’ve got to do now is find a way of freeing it!

If you fail, I do have many spares for Duomats, including handling assemblies

One recommendation I would add, I would always suggest taking both wheel bundles off and breaking them down to the bearing and spindles, as so many Duomats I have seen over the years don’t run right due to clogged up reels, often meaning the lower reel stops short. They have two metric bearings on the hub used on roller skates, than need a good clean or even replacing if running poor…..

Thank you for that. Believe it or not, after 25 years in my cellar, both wheels spin wonderfully well after a little lubrication!

tree frog: I might have to take you up on the offer of a replacement part. Presumably the handle is still attached to the plate on the front of the machine (I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be!).

Could you PM be a price including postage (presuming that you're willing to post it!)?

Many thanks
