Jamiesons Automatics Maxi dropcase machine in Norway

Post by bamsefar1 »

Hi.
Just wanted to share a discovery I did just a few weeks ago:

In Norway numerous versions of drop-case machines were released over a 50 years' period. During the late 1970s until the mid-eighties there was a Norwegian distributor named Scandomatic. This company marketed a drop-case machines called "Maxi". This was a very popular model which, over a long period of time, was to be found all over Norway. Four versions were released over several years, with mostly cosmetic alterations. All Maxi machines had a bonus feature: When hitting the highest payout column; hitting any of the payout columns within the next 5 plays would be rewarded with the highest payout of 7 coins.
The Maxi machines could be delivered with a coin-changer mechanism; so some had, some didn't.

Until 14 days ago I had no indication that this machine was fabricated in the UK, which it obviously was, since it's a Jamiesons Automatics product :D

A fellow penny-arcade enthusiast had got his hands on an original sales brochure from the 1980s where the Jamiesons logo was present. There are no obvious markings on the machine itself. I post some pics for you of this machine, which I am delighted to have in my collection.

Anyone who seen this machine in UK ?

You made my day with that article. !!YIPPEE!!
As icing on the cake, the main picture in the link you refered to shows a Maxi IV flick-a-coin machine. That was the final model, the most evolved one. Thank you so much.
I will bring this info to other Norwegian collectors who will find this very interesting.

I guess you could try tracking down surviving members of the Jamieson family in the hope that some paperwork was stored...

Just a thought??
Do you have any way of contacting Laurie Binns family, I know he had a lot to do with the design side, maybe his family kept some of his old notebooks.. :!?!:
PS How is the restoration coming along? :D

Sorry but i don’t have any contact details for The Binns family

The resto is going well - managed to swap the motor out - then get it to rotate the right way round to match the cams !!
Bit of cleaning and adjusting & now Seems to work ok - just not too sure how many rpm it’s meant to be ?? Seems a bit fast

Trying to find some formica to match - any ideas??

I tried to track them down a few years ago, but no luck.

Matching Formica can be a problem, sometimes you can find a piece of scrap furniture that you can retrieve some Formica from, charity and second hand shops are good for this, or you could recover the whole cabinet with the nearest match of new formica, or maybe it should be cleaned and left as it is... :!?!:

Transistor/electronic part for Jamieson wall machine

Post by bamsefar1 »

Topic moved & merged - Site Admin.

Got a Jamison "MAXI" -wall machine. I don't know if these were distributed / on location in the UK. But these were popular & pretty common in Norway.

There are two specific / programmed transistors/ chips which I need to get my machine work again.
These are marked:

Teledyne " 324AJ " and " 367AJ/CJ "

Any suggestions on how get hold of these parts ??

Well that would seem to be an odd one. It would at first seem to be outside our period of interest BUT it's a Jamieson's machine which are of interest to us. Hopefully one of the guys will be able to help although pre programmed chip are not going to be easy. Do you have a date for that machine please?
