Sitas Allwin - Drop shelf

Post by longbobongo »

Does anyone on here have a similar Allwin to Sitas - When you press a button to retract the track to drop the ball in to the cups.

I was looking to buy a similar machine made by BMco.

I had never seen one before and had 2 offered to me although they were not bargains.

I know we never talk prices but does anyone remember any previous sale prices.

Cheers

The only two I know of, Luna Park and Sitas (above) are depicted on page 50 of Carter's book. They were bought by John in the same year, sometime in the 1990s - I remember because I had a chance to buy both, but not having actually seen them, I didn't act fast enough! One came from an auction house and John Hayward sold the other. They were about £100 more than an average allwin I believe, but too long ago for the prices to mean much now.

This earlier machine works on a similar principle to yours -- I think it may be called Switchback, made by London Automatic Machine Company in 1928.

Beats me, I can't see anything that could move when you press the button.
All the shelves look firmly attached to me, so what gives?

There is a shelf above the win/lose cups which retracts when you press the button. There are two coin return cups two ball return cups and three lose cups. Its hard to judge when to press ! If you enlarge the picture you can see the shelf which is a brass casting .

I hear there are some new fangled square pin mains plugs coming out soon to replace our familiar round pin ones.

Don't be daft!
If you think about it they wouldn't fit the sockets, anyway it'd only frighten the horses. :o

Different play but the same concept of the retracting shelf that drops the ball: Handan-Ni Bomb Dropper.

Handan-Ni Ltd. London, 1919. "Bomb Dropper." There is speculation that this particular machine was made by a man who worked for Handan-Ni but not under the Handan-Ni badge.

There's an example of the earlier four cannon version of the Bomb Dropper in the Museum.

Here's Luna Park, companion allwin to Sitas.

These machines are reminiscent of Wonders Boomerang - almost impossible to win anything!

In Luna Park, that pocket in the bottom left, at the top of the tower graphic, looks actually impossible to hit.
