Bryans Six Win Clock restoration

Post by tiggy125 »

Hi All,
Had this machine for several years. Lockdown and shielding has enabled me to get a start on restoring it.
It appears to be an early machine, no.188. Does this make it early '30s?
The front has been covered with a replacement veneer covering the jackpot window. I have replaced the veneer. Does anyone out there have a jackpot window casting?
I’m also looking for any skill stop parts, as all I have is the hole in the top of the cabinet!
Will post more pictures as progress is made.

Yes, the Six Win predates the Twelvewin and appears to have gone into production around 1930. The original patent (GB353451) was applied for April 17th, 1930.

The skill stop mechanism isn't complicated, and should be possible to fabricate. See patent and Clock Jackpot and Skill stop for details. The button itself is sometimes a turned chrome knob, sometimes just a piece of rounded-off steel rod.

I like the inner brass bezel on your clock face - don't think I've seen that before.

Thanks Pennymachines. I will attempt to make Skill stop. As you say, it doesn’t look too complicated.
The inner brass bezel was just glued on the clock face - I’m undecided as to whether I’ll refit it or not.
As for the jackpot window casting, I’ve been in the shed this morning and fabricated one - maybe not 100%, but pretty close.

If you can knock that together in a morning you should have no difficulty with the skill stop. !!HOORAY!!

That looks pretty good. Sure there was a thread on here, a couple of years ago about what the Bryans symbols meant, but can't seem to find it.

You might be referring to the Bullion topic with the five symbols: Bryans and the mystical 5

Wish I could produce things like that in a morning.

Last time I did one of these, I found chrome screws holding the bezels to the case. Stupid money, so I improvised by using nickel plated electrical socket machine screws and matching nuts instead... Cheap as chips from Screwfix. A quick spin on the polishing wheel, and just like chrome. Mine was numbered 101, probably the first production model.
