Looking forward to watching, Mr Merrivale.
Two weeks ago I had a similar experience and hope that you enjoyed it as much as me.

The BBC paid a visit to the Ditchburn Jukebox Museum to shoot a segment for the Antiques Roadtrip and discuss the History of the first British Jukebox. Never been so nervous in my whole life... but a great experience. This should be on TV near the end of the year (no date confirmed yet).

It does make me wonder what impact all these different TV programs (including repair shop style) which include slot machines etc. will have on the prices of these machines. There definitely seems to be a resurgence in interest.
I think I have just blown my chances of buying a cheap Ditchburn Jukebox ever again. :)

all the best ... Dicky

Hi Dicky
I think it's great that the TV companies are recognising the coin operated world for filming, as for many years we have been overlooked and I look forward to when you program is released. Happy filming one and all.

Mr Merrivale
I totally agree... I am at an age (nearly 60) where I want to share our coin op history and heritage with the younger generation. My personal feeling is... it's pointless having a collection that no one can see, and it's great that the media are taking an interest. The great thing about our amusement machines is they will still be working in 200+ years time, and chances are the Xboxes and PlayStations won't be... Chris Black at Sound Leisure Jukeboxes explained to a young child that vintage Vinyl Jukeboxes are the equivalent of an iPod today... and the kid said ... "What's an iPod" ? You forget that the the new generation have skipped so many levels of technology that has happened rapidly over the last few years... it's been and gone... but our machines will live on for ever.

Anyway, I wish you all the best and look forward to visiting you some time this year. Even though I have lived in Lytham Lancs for the last 25+ years, I am Norwich born and bred "Bor" lived in North Walsham for 10 years and spent a lot of time in Gt Yarmouth. My childhood memories are Jacko (Fossett) and Little Billy at the Circus, or on the Snails and Tubs in Joyland and of course the Merrivale model village. Great memories... great town... Great Yarmouth. :D

A very positive outcome.
I was slightly uneasy when I first heard of it. Shades of Martin Bashir!

Lovely, just watched it on catchup. You can always tell Pete's machines, gleaming like the day they were made!

I've ended up watching all 5 programs as Mrs cowman liked the first one.. shame there was no more vintage arcades televised but I suppose there's not many left. Finishing at Blackpool. Where I don't think there's a one....?

Well Jimmy
there is plenty of opportunity for someone to open a vintage arcade in Blackpool ... there is a blackpool museum opening soon with funding and grants from the national heritage and lottery ... £13 million ( that should buy a couple of Bryans :) )

https://www.visitblackpool.com/latest-n ... s-officia/

It really needs a penny arcade ( especially with some Hawtins Machines )

They asked me to put one of my Hawtins / Ditchburn Jukeboxes on display ... but they wanted it in a glass case and with piped music for a 5 year period ... it would destroy itself it needs to work to stay alive :) ... it inspired me to open my own museum that people could hear it play ... but why not have penny machines that people can interact with in the Museum ... it's a huge part of what they want.

all the best ... Dicky

It's a shame there's not a vintage arcade at Blackpool any more. I'd say it's the biggest seaside resort in the UK.
