Re: Elephant House Auctions
It could be that the seller at the Elephant House didn't sell it at the Elephant House so took it back home and listed the same item on ebay at a later date?
Just an option?

Re: Elephant House Auctions
That's because the results I posted were based upon what appeared to be hammer prices in the room. It's often hard to detect when something doesn't actually reach reserve. Auction houses often obscure no-sales because it creates a better buzz in the room if everything appears to be selling - particularly when some appears to be going cheap. 17 items I recorded as sales fell into that category. Reserves were too high or bidders too stingy, or both (depending upon how you look at it). I've revised the list.13rebel wrote:Somewhat oddly, when you open the results page on the EH site there are a number of missing lots, yet clicking on Mr PM's link includes them.
No-sales are unrecorded in the EH published results, but are apparent if you compare missing lots against the original catalogue. For the record, lot 153 appeared to reach £480, but bear in mind that the final bid on any item which doesn't make reserve may be "taken off the wall", so the last real bid on this item was probably £460.
Re: Elephant House Auctions
Which is why The Coventry Auction states at the time if a lot fails to reach reserve.
Bidders are then invited to approach the auctioneer later if they have a change of heart.
Alternatively, after consulting with the vendor about the reserve we have re-offered such lots at the very end.
This works quite well and appears to give everybody a fairer chance as well as being transparent.

Re: Elephant House Auctions
Apparently sold lots that somehow disappear, only to be re offered later is often down to a practise known as selling to the chandelier. It is common in small auctions when the seller and the auctioneer are known to each other, or the seller is the auctioneer. It is used to bump up the price of items, either to suck in a mug to believe he is getting in on a good deal, or to create a 'value' that can be bandied about when pricing goods. Vintage car auctions and number plate sites are very prone to this practise, and the mug buyer only finds out when sell on time comes, and all of a sudden, the market has dropped. Stock traders do the same, pump up the market, drag in the mugs, make a killing. I'm not in any way suggesting EH engage in this type of practise, just an observation on earlier posts.

Re: Elephant House Auctions
Does the 25 year claim ignore or include the barren years?

Re: Elephant House Auctions
also like to know what lot 192 jennings duchess brought in.
Steve said it in only arrived this morning and seller was unable to send in pictures to EH beforehand??
I am not prepared to absentee bid without pictures so the seller of the Duchess has probably saved me some money, lol
