Cromptons Tip-Em-Off... HELP!
HELP!!!
I am working on a Crompton's TIP-EM-OFF wall machine, I found this machine under a gooseberry bush ... well it was on Badpenny's compost heap, if you really want to know . as a result, the slugs and bugs, have buggered off with some of the bits, or to put it another way, some of the tippers. I have made a nice new case for the machine, but what I could do with now, is a photo of said tippers in situ, so I can work out which are missing and what goes where , Then I can try and re-make the missing parts and finish the machine. I will post a photo once it is finished.
Any help will be welcomed

Re: Cromptons Tip-Em-Off... HELP!
Hi Stuart - in case you hadn't spotted it, you might get some idea about the arrangement of the tippers from the enlarged picture of a Crompton Tip-Em-Off in my Arena article on Portable Penny Pushers - Page 4. It's the same scheme as the Jamieson See-Saw, next to it.
Looking at your picture, I think you might have examples of all the required shapes. Basically, they're arranged so there are no visible gaps when the tippers are un-tilted. The symmetrical "V" (in the top of your picture) sits atop the apex of the "Tip-Em-Off" sign. The other end of each counterweighted piece is a horizontal coin-catching flap, whereas the un-weighted bits are the gap fillers. I don't have one to play with at present, I'm afraid, but maybe you could puzzle it out trial-and-error by making some cardboard copies of the bits you have.

Hi Dave ,
Thanks for that, I thought I had seen a photo on the forum, never thought to look in the Arena ..
armed with this knowledge, I will nip back down to the shed, and see if the penny drops..

Thanks for the above words of wisdom, as soon as I read them it all made sense , and you were right in saying I had examples of all the required shapes. I have been and had some stainless sheet cut, and have now remade all the missing bitsPennyMachines wrote: whereas the un-weighted bits are the gap fillers.
And I would also like to thank Badpenny for sending all his "rubbish" up to Yorkshire for recycling, and helping to keep me out from under the wife's feet . I think this is going to be machine No2 in my grandson's collection, so I will have to find room for it low down on the wall so he can reach it

Nice job, Stuart
And you did it all in 4 days? Perhaps you could knock-up a few for me? I'll send you a list.

Hi Jerry, glad you like it ...it took me about 8 days on and off to work through it, but it's been stuck under my bench for for the last 4 months. I just needed to get it done and make some room, in case I come home from the auction with an other car load of waifs and strays If not you will just have to send me your list...lol

Re: Cromptons Tip-Em-Off... HELP!
Hi Stuart,
Nice job, I have a similar machine, with one of the weighted tippers missing. As a matter of interest, where did you source the stainless steel from with the right thickness. I may need to remake the weight out of either large nuts or possibly lead. Also what did you make the case out of?
Many thanks for your help.

Re: Cromptons Tip-Em-Off... HELP!
I acquired my stainless from the wife's microwave oven, which I persuaded her was past its best !
Another good source is the local dumpit site: park up near the metal bank & hijack the incoming goodies before they hit the skip, avoiding the day-glo security thugs and banks of cameras. I have rescued a few sheets of zinc-plated steel from the back of washing machines which are great for rebuilding rusty Clock parts etc.
Try your local scrapyard, they never turn down folding money for anything!

Re: Cromptons Tip-Em-Off... HELP!
Hi tree-frog, , I am lucky to know the owner of a stainless steel fabrication company. I was an apprentice with him over 35 years ago, so I just pop in and raid his offcuts bin.
I made the missing weights out of a stack of 5 or 6 halfpennies with a copper rivet through the middle. They work out at just about the same size and weight as the originals. I used halfpennies because I have 100s of them and no halfpenny machines .
As for the case, I managed to rescue the original back and the original front door, the rest I made from 18mm MDF, and finished it with a paint splatter finish and a clear top coat Why MDF?..... because I had lots of it at the time. I also added my own top flash just to finish it off.
And as raj was saying, you could try the local tip, sorry "Recycle Center", where I have been scrounging for the last 40 years, but since the Spaniards took over last year, they have made it a hanging offense to remove anything from the site, which kind of goes against there prime directive of Recycling???

Re: Cromptons Tip-Em-Off... HELP!
Thanks,
I did wonder about the top flash, as I had not seen this on any others, it looks good and improves from the plain boxey finish

Does anyone have a Cromptons Tip em Off that they could photograph for me please? I need a high res picture, as I want to have the graphics printed. I'll be happy to post in Resources once I've prepared ready for printing.
Thanks
Jerry

Re: Cromptons Tip-Em-Off... HELP!
Thanks Stuart, yes that's what I need - but much bigger. If anyone has a machine that they could photo those two pieces of artwork for me, it would be much appreciated.
