Re: Opportunity of the decade coming
You've lost me there Bob.
Pennymachines.co.uk covers all machines and specialises in British machines, but not exclusively.
This is a thread in one element only of the Forum that emerged from the obituary to Mick Harris Snr. and advises a forthcoming event that is hopefully to the benefit of those interested. The same as we do for The Coventry Auction, EH Auctions and others that take place anywhere in the world as it happens.
This event can only concentrate on Bandits because that was what M. Harris Snr. specialised in.
I hope that makes sense

Re: Opportunity of the decade coming
The forum trading rule is fairly straightforward and hasn't changed since the site was set up. In one sentence: All onsite trading should be done via the Market
The one day sale of spares takes place in Derby on 19th August. It's not onsite trading.

Not trying to tell you your job, moderators, but shouldn't posts containing foul language be deleted?
Re: Opportunity of the decade coming
Why are you offended.......
It is a shame Bob has decided to leave the forum, whatever the circumstances, I believe a loss...

A man with a
Wide experience of British arcade
Machines.
The forum will be
A poorer place without
His distinctive style.

Perhaps it's just the hot weather, but a Post like What?
Get it off your chest Nigel, you're being uncharacteristically vague there.

Re: Opportunity of the decade coming
Mine was ironic too but you were there first with Nigel and Brigham. My comment was for others BP as I would never dream you would not have spotted the original import! Reminiscent of E.J. Thribb cf Private Eye ( and still going strong). This is much gentler than some posts that have sadly been posted of late and over about the last year by some.
Re: Opportunity of the decade coming
I don’t get irony or sarcasm and sometimes others who join, read or want to contribute to the forum can find such reply’s as reasons to stay in the shadows. I am sure it is all meant in reasonable good nature, but sometimes does not always come across that way a bit like the school days and the kid in the corner.
I know of a number of people who have tried to contribute over the years, certainly one high contributor who has felt alienated by others, shame really
On another topic, when this current issue around selling in threads occurred, I did then realise there is a flaw in the logic of how this is setup as the person who originally was looking for a certain machine had already posted a valid wanted request and promoted it as had been suggested to other members through the forum as a post, of course people responded.....
c'est la vie It is what is it, maybe the the way PM has setup the forum area for wanted and sale is restricted so no one can respond.....

Re: Opportunity of the decade coming
I think it's a shame when a long-term knowledgeable contributor feels it necessary to resign over points of administrative procedure.
We all think differently from the pack, and differently from each other. The fact that we are on here is testament to that.
It's a shame that we cannot all be accommodated, for the general good of the hobby.

Re: Opportunity of the decade coming
My last point on this, but I raised the swear word and whether any offence was taken as it is interesting that was not redacted rather than the less serious offence in responding to a wanted request. I guess that is up to the mods and their priorities I suppose and who am I to question this.......
Hopefully he will come back as with many other knowledgeable contributors who no longer contribute, some of them seem to use the Facebook groups instead

Re: Split from: Opportunity of the decade coming
I've split and moved this part of the Opportunity of the decade coming thread because it's no longer about that event.
I'm also a bit puzzled and saddened that we lost jingle. Perhaps I should make it clear he wasn't asked to leave and remains welcome. He asked to have his account deleted.
It is easy to respond to such posts if you have something to sell without ignoring the rule of not using the Forum for trading: respond via the advert in the Market, place your own Market advert or send a PM.
It is set up so that anyone can respond through the Market by clicking the link.
To clarify again: I do not allow direct trading of machines in the Forum for a number of reasons. Firstly, it can cause squabbling and other issues which I then have to mediate with the other moderators. Secondly, I run a free website, which incurs costs which increase yearly. To offset this there is a subscription area (Arena) and a modest charge for selling via the site. I've tried to make this simple and effective for everyone, including downloading more paid-for software yesterday to improve the integration between the Forum and Market.
With regard to swearing, I don't really have a policy or strong opinion, apart from a preference for politeness.

Re: Split from: Opportunity of the decade coming
Over the last 18 months or so there has been a sad increase of posts that are abusive unpleasant and unnecessarily critical of other users. In particular there have been in my view unacceptable and unhelpful criticisms of Mr PM and his moderators and moreover expressed in unseemly terms. There has always been differences in opinion and wry and funny banter but there appears to be a cohort of members who seem to be bent on causing quite simply unhappiness. I ask that we should all reflect on the following:
1.This site is run by Mr PM with help from the moderators not as a commercial enterprise but as voluntary undertaking which benefits all of us who own/restore/ play/buy and sell/ have a general interest in machines from different eras and types. The extremely modest cost of joining the Arena and putting adverts in the market cannot even begin to cover the actual costs of the running the site let alone taking into account the immense amount of time spent;
2.The work done by Mr PM with the support of a fairly small body of member contributors makes this site one of the most interesting informative helpful comprehensive and (subject to my comments at the beginning) enjoyable sites available and a resource section that cannot be bettered. It never ceases to amaze me what knowledge is disseminated through the forum. Nor does it cease to amaze me what valuable contributions are made from those members who make a living from buying/selling /restoring machines.
3. For many of us the point of this site is to increase our knowledge and enjoyment of the machines we love and to discuss with like minded people a shared interest.
I wrote the above before I had read Mr. PM's post and JP's pictorial response. I can only echo JP.
