Limelite payout pintable
Limelite payout pintable
I've finally got round to my Limelight pintable, in the long queue of items 'stored dead'.
There was some mention of them on here, years ago.
They were distributed by Philip Shefras, but I'm guessing that they were built by Shields of Bridlington.
So far, it appears to be 'all-mains', but there's a GPO uniselector present, so I suspect that there's a transformer missing.
Has anyone any experience of them? Voltages, or even a diagram would be most helpful.

Re: Limelight pay-out pintable.
Good luck with finding a wiring diagram, I never could...
You are correct in saying they were made by Shields of Brid. I worked on a couple a few years ago, and as far as I can remember they were run from a transformer, 6 volts for the lights and I think??? about 50 volts for the relays and selector. I don't recall any mains voltage being used apart from the payout solenoid??
I don't think a lot were made, even Mary Shields had never seen one until I sent her a picture... The circuit is quite simple, it's just a stepper circuit. Good luck with the restoration.
I do remember that the 2 machines I worked on were not made the same... They just used what parts they could get at the time, a bit like Jamiesons did.

Re: Limelite payout pintable
It's always cool to hear about a vintage British slot I've not seen before. The theme and design of this one make it quite appealing. Do you have pictures of yours Brigham?
Internally, no doubt, it will be very similar to the other Shields pinballs.
To round up, we have:
Shoot!
Tuck Shop
Threes!
Bingo
and now Limelite
And other British-made payout pinballs:
Win-A-Lot
KOPPO
Whirlwin Spinball
Brenner Little Bren
Jamieson Bingo (Floor Console)

Re: Limelite payout pintable
I have a KOPPO.
I thought that it was Shields, too, but it has a metal case, rather than wood.
I'm trying to learn how to post pictures; I'll put them both on as soon as I've grasped it.

I know nothing about KOPPO and got the name from your earlier post:

We need a picture of that one too.

Re: Limelite payout pintable
This last post just jogged my memory I worked on some Koppo machines at the same time as the Limelite machines, sadly the only photo I could find was the Limelite's & Koppo's stacked in a pile ready to start work on them....

Were these machines at all popular in their time? I like how they all look like machines pretending to be contemporary pinball machines that are hoping no one notices. ;)
I do like the payout mechs that roll your candy wins across the playfield, akin to a Japanese Smart Ball machine.

They were very popular at the time, with ww2 sweet rationing going on into the 1950s a packet of Polos was a big pull for your penny.

Re: Limelite payout pintable
I remember playing these in the 1960s and the payouts were 2d, 4d and 6d

Re: Limelite payout pintable
I know you were, which is what made me wonder if Limelite did the same. Rippy answered my question, but I still want to know where the money comes out.

Re: Limelite payout pintable
Both the Limelite & Koppo have a payout cup below the coin slide on the front of the machines, but I am sure that if you asked for either with a sweet payout it could have been done as a special....
