Have you seen what we mustn't talk about?

Post by badpenny »

I've never gotten my head totally around talking openly about Discoveries and up coming Auctions .
While at the same time we don't want them mentioned on the forum in case others go after them as well!?

I know there's a few of us on here have fallen foul of that one.
So I'm not going to mention a general auction coming up in UK (end of June) with 19 machines. Mainly working models including Green Ray, Pharaohs, Novelty merchants, Mutoscope, All Square, Shooters etc ......

I shan't be going, perhaps that's why I'm happy to mention it.
Now if it had been offering a Buckley Bones, I should have probably gotten quite irritated with myself!!!!

Be careful not to mention it's in Newcastle or it's on The Saleroom either. OOPS !! As they say in court, strike that from the record!

Oh no, I had my trip planned to get the 7 hours to Newcastle and back done before midnight to comply with the new travel rules, scuppered once again !OMFG!

I am not excited though, always like those Bryans cranes Mind you, just a bit big for my bathroom. Look to me like from a business sale maybe.....

If you're feeling dizzy and in need of an eye test, you should be fine. If you've got the virus - even better. Take passengers, at least one child. If nobody's killed, you'll be deemed to have acted "responsibly and legally and with integrity".

BP I am surprised you would not be interested in the two green shield stamp bandits, that payout stamps as the win....I only say this as if you do a search on the site, you seem to have a favourable memory of them

You're not wrong there TF.
It was through the Green Shield catalogue I found two of my wives.
I met the first one at a party, it was a hell of a shock, I thought she was doing overtime down the bookies.

At last; a local one.
Estimates seem rather low; buyer's premium rather high.
Some of the descriptions are a little 'imprecise'. Still, we all know what a Treasure Cave is.
On my list; that's what it is.

Nobles have some big storage warehouses up there. They used to be packed full of all kinds of amusement machines and used to have periodic clearance sales advertised out of Coin Slot that I went to, row after row of good stuff they'd operated.
Now they've sold out to Admiral I guess this is them clearing the odds and ends left over.
The machines seem a bit of an odd mix, everything Nobles operated themselves always used to be very well maintained and some of these are not to their usual standard.

Three Crompton's Shooters, and none of them the usual 'pussy'. That's rare.
I like that 1960s fortune teller...

Another couple and you'd have a full set, 'Dem Bones' missing.
The Big Game 'shoot between the eyes' a bit too controversial to operate, but aiming at Native American Indians still a grey area. !SAINT!

What price the Green Ray? Far better than the Morphy machine that sold for $5,500 hammer! We will see tomorrow, but £2/400 unlikely to buy it!!!

Crazy, you would have thought A&G would have dropped the fee for their own online auction service given current crisis, given they already charge 22%

On top of all this, many may not be able to collect on the day, especially online bidders, they have an additional charge of around £130 per item to remove from location, warehouse fees and handling fees just for amusement items. You would have thought they would be trying to encourage people to return to auctions.

Making hay will the sun shines I'd guess.
Proof of that being Arcadians on eBay going for £600 apparently

Results now in the Arena (together with monthly round-up).
The Green Ray was a bit cheaper than the American one, at £2,600 plus extras. Weird that they catalogued it as circa 1960s!

Thought I would watch for fun, must be the slowest auctioneers on the planet. It was painful.....averaging 50 lots an hour. Maybe trying to drag it out due to limited lots.

Money still out there though, my favourite was the Bryans Crane. Love the shape of those, if a little large.
