New Sega Diamond 3 Star on Old Penny Resto
New Sega Diamond 3 Star on Old Penny Resto
So, this is the latest resto project destined to join the Penny Arcade.
It was on 2p, I have removed the sleeve and also the screws in the coin entry that were blocking larger coinage.
After a clean and degrease the mech is working fine. I am struggling to make sense of the payout though. In the absence of an award card and glass I am having to guess what goes where…..
The machines I have looked at are all on 6D and so the payout values are different from mine. The slides are old penny ones but I don't know what order they should be in. I have 6 in all. The base slide takes 2 coins, then I have 3 slides that take 4 coins, a slide that takes 5 coins and another slide that takes 2 coins. (I know the slides are upside down in the pictures, it’s so I can see how many coins they take on a flat surface).
Does anyone here have this machine on old penny so that I can try and work out if the slides I have are correct or if something is missing?
I have tried the slides in various combinations but don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Obviously a mix of parts. The machine it is on I believe was never on old penny and only one in the range I am aware of was the Copper Star, which was limited to 6 x 2 penny slides, so 12d top award.
You can see slides posts are a mixture of types and there are washers on at least one to raise the height.
If they work and pay and you have no awards, perhaps do the following which will be fine… bottom two slides for the 2 coin options to pay on single and double Cherry. Next three up 4 coin slides for oranges, plums and bells, then the 5 coin at top for jackpot at 21 coins… of coin this will not exactly match any machine out there, but to make correct you will need different slide posts and slides. If you do change to the above arrangement, you need to bend and adjust horizontal to match - easily done.

Re: New Sega Diamond 3 Star on Old Penny Resto
Thanks Treefrog. It’s a bit of a dilemma to be honest. The base slide (with the 90 degree upright bit) is not tall enough to push all of the slides forward.
I am happy to have a go at sourcing replacement slides etc. but where to start..?
Failing that, I can as you say, adapt it. I need to source the payout card glass bit which is missing; then I could make a suitable payout card to mirror the machine.
My reels have all sorts of symbols on them, including a payout hole that has been filled in. Having a struggle trying to make sense of it all. Just looking to get it playing and finished nicely.

Why not just restrict to 12 coin payout (more in keeping with the period), so just the two 2 coin slides at the bottom and two 4 coin above? Problem is finding a correct award. I bought a set of old penny slides at Colcon, from a Copper Star. They were much wider than standard, the same as 50c machines from Mills. Operators bodged ordinary machines with narrower slides for the penny, but most I have seen did not match yours.

So work is progressing. I wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of finding one of these old 1D coin denominators. I know there are resin smaller versions on eBay etc but would like to find something a bit more “correct” before I go down that route :-)
