Penny Parlour - the end of the beginning

It’s been a long & often frustrating road but I’m pretty proud to share this. Opening very soon, fingers crossed 17th April.

Good luck with the enterprise. Can’t be many, if any, other similar setups in Australia. Hopefully people won’t take too many pennies.

I see the main picture is blurred on Facebook. Any chance of pictures inside?

Simon, are you charging admission to stay within Aus legal parameters? Same question in 'loaning' visitors 25 pennies rather than selling them?
Presumably they can win pennies or don't you have any machines that pay out?
What happens when they've spent all their pennies? Can they then buy more?

Hi Chris, the entry charge is there for income rather than legal parameters. The paying machines are all skill machines (I use that term loosely ) which means they’re not covered by pokie/chance laws in QLD. All pennies remain the property of the museum and any that do go astray can be replaced for $20kg which is about 105 coins. Some of the machines are not on pennies and remain on freeplay and more pennies can be ‘purchased' if required.

Thanks Badpenny. Fortunately I live in a small town (Port Douglas) that is an expensive tourist mecca because it's at the point where the Reef hits the Daintree Rainforest. There's not much else to do here after visiting those two (with almost empty wallet) apart from paying $10 for a Schooner at the pubs. I've run a few machines at market stalls before this and the younger Steampunk mob love it just as much as the older people looking for nostalgia.

Hi treefrog, the panorama is blurred on purpose it’s an old photo and would look a bit like a construction site if in focus. Planning to get better shots after small acorn stage

Thanks pm, one day I hope to get them all out, I’ve got at least another 50 in various states of decay, all pulled from the back of old Showmens sheds etc. A collector once said to me that if the metalwork is there then the machine is there. He was right
