Bulk Purchase
Having bought something on ebay about 3 months ago I discovered on collection that the vendor was the last of a retired show family. This weekend after persuasion, driving over 1500 miles, biding my time, plenty phone calls, lots of planning, changing dates at last minute etc. etc. I was allowed to to empty the last Packing Wagon and buy ........

I seem to remember there was a Strength Tester as well, but it might have escaped, I have to admit I was so astonished and busy collecting keys and spare locks and Allwin track that I'm going to have to really spend some time pouring over it all to fully learn what I've got.
There is probably a couple that I might keep, otherwise Coventry Auction should have a good start this year.

Well done that man! What a great find and an encouragement to those who think there is little left. Just in the last few weeks I have heard of some closed doors hiding some real treasures from an arcade that closed pre-war. They are still out there and 10/10 to Mr Pennymachines for his super find!
Re: Bulk Purchase
Nice one BP, one day, one day, I will hit the jackpot... trouble is, everytime I think there is a chance, I find I have just missed out, either through someone else got there first or the stuff was disposed of....
Tonight having just driven all the way down to the South coast for a machine, the chap when I told him I collected them, said...."oh no, the guy I got this off, had dozens of them he was virtually giving them away, an old travelling showman who had retired and had hundreds of showman material, including dozens of allwins etc."...so of course I make enquiries where the man is now..... , but he has moved on.....
What is that machine on the left BP, with two coin entries and a single knob on the front?

I've been waiting for that question, because I really have no idea. Can anyone else identify it? It seems to be professionally made. It says Roll Out The Barrel and the reels are drink orientated.
The slots seem to take different coins one is pennies the other tanners. When I next visit my cave I'll photo the innards.
The mech reminds me of nothing I've seen before. It's bloody heavy and I don't know why I think it but Firman seems to jump to mind as I think I saw something similar once upon a twice somewhere in a galaxy far far away.
However over to the more eagle-eyed amongst you who specialise in rivet counting and the correct hue of paint when it comes to these things.
PS I've just realised that apart from the strength tester I forgot to include a photo of a Bryans Worlborl. I'll try and remember to shove that on later. Wonder what else I've overlooked?

Re: Bulk Purchase
I did wonder whether it had something to do with the Roll-Out-The-Barrel machine or the Domino with knob/accuator on the front, another revamp possibly... What is the window on the left for?

Here's a picture of how I believe the machine started its life. A Max Jentzsch & Merz Omega circa 1931..better check that the oiginal parts aren't in your consignment!Badpenny wrote:I've been waiting for that question, because I really have no idea. Re: Bulk Purchase
I wonder if BP's machine is original and the one above was a vendor option with reel stops, which may explain the knob on the lower right side and the large coin/vendor tray... also the front looks like vendor windows?

Re: Bulk Purchase
Personally, I'm doubtful. BP's version features a square payout cup (which I've always associated with 60s onwards machines - although, granted some earlier machines may have them) and the lower wood front piece on BP's machine just has a look of not being that old. So, if the machine I've cited is 30s and German, I'd guess that BP's is an example which has washed up on our shores and been under the sensitive screwdriver of a showman.

Following the number of PMs I've had from forum members enquiring about this machine here are the photos I promised.Coin-op wrote:Here's a picture of how I believe the machine started its life. It plays superbly, the mechanism is very crisp and sounds as precise in its action as a BDR does.
It plays on old penny and pays out on tokens which can also be used to play (hence the two slots) The tokens are small and those P.E. tokens fit so I guess a tanner would as well.
The little window to the left of the reels displays a drum which on payout spins to show the amount you are winning, how cool is that?
The back door is metal as is the top front casting.
The whole thing is as heavy as a HiTop.
The reel graphics look professional and genuine as does the whole thing, so I don't know what to think.
