Bit of a show off moment!
Bit of a show off moment!
Hi everyone, well after 6 long years of dithering, I've finally finished my Old Penny Arcade. Most of the work was converting the old market stall and painting the boards with sign writing enamels. The best bits have been tracking down some fun machines and giving them a bit of an mot and painting the little ticket signs. I've had to buy cheap and cheerful machines to get me started, but I'm hoping to buy ones I particularly remember playing on (a proper Parkers Carousel, Easy Push, Bell Fruit Penny Special etc) as I go along. I hope you like what you see...I'm having a bit of a rest from painting now, as it's sent me over the edge

Re: Bit of a show off moment!
Thank you; I'm well pleased with it!
Yeah, the Mrs said she wanted plenty of colour to cheer everyone up! It's already booked to go out on private hire (even before it was finished!) and hoping to get it out to some local events in the summer hols and Christmas!
Thank you, absolutely! I'd been finishing off a little Coulson roundabout too, so took a lot longer than I thought it would, so nice to see it all done now!
Thank you! The Mrs gave me an old penny luck money!
Thank you so much; had to draft the Mrs in to draft out Lady Britannia's face, but other than that all my own work and very proud of it now it's come together.

Re: Bit of a show off moment!
Brilliant job, well done.
Is that one of the Retro-Arcade chocolate machines on the far right?

Thank you and thanks for the luck!mr merrivale wrote: βWed Jun 30, 2021 12:13 pm Looks great. A very good job, well done and good luck.
Thank you so much!
Yes well spotted! Tried to hunt one down for a while now (the real article) even had a word with me ole mate Ray Roberts who used to make them, and couldn't find one for my life. Hoping to exchange this one for a proper Parkers Carousel when I can!
Re: Bit of a show off moment!
Very cool! Two questions: can we see the machines on the left side? What tunes you playing on the speakers?
Re: Bit of a show off moment!
Thank you and you certainly can; pics attached!
No doubt there will be some Russ Conway tunes! Rule Britannia may be fitting!
Some good time fairground music, a bit of rock 'n' roll and a bit of northern soul; it's the job I'm the most excited about, picking the tunes! Small things!

That's great - combined with the bright colours of the stall, the sound of the steel balls rattling around and the pennies dropping, all you need now is a candy floss machine to wrap all those sensory sensations into an authentic 1950s - 1960s experience - superb.
Re: Bit of a show off moment!
Please remove if not acceptable, but just wanted to show those interested in the Penny Arcade and how we have it set up now. We've taken it out on the road a couple of times, but mainly for paid hire events, this weekend just gone, we took it out for a garden centre Christmas event and we were surprised how popular it was! We'll be going there again this weekend, and it gives our 14 year old son 'something useful' to do at the weekend too! Hope you enjoy the video.

Hi Chris, Nice set up. I can see you've put a lot of effort into this. Well done mate.
Re: Bit of a show off moment!
I thought I recognised the stall and realised you have a lovely range of fairground items for hire. A colleague of mine who knows of you and Paul does similar stuff down my way in Suffolk, excluding a penny arcade. I threatened to add an arcade to his inventory as I would love to have a go. Also think hire rates are very reasonable and everything is in such perfect condition.
