Need help on my Mills War Eagle restoration

Post by slotjunky »

Hello community,

I am restoring a Mills War Eagle and I need to make my own wooden bottom of the housing. (front and rear piece of the wood is missing).
I need the distance of the nails from the edge as shown on the picture and I need to know if the nails are also inserted on the back of the machine too. I am sure somebody out the has a machine like this and can give me the measurments.

Thank you in advance.

Answer is yes both sides. I do not have a war Eagle in front of me, but most Mills of the period are similar: I measured about 10 inches.

I had always assumed the pins on all these machines went all the way through to hold the pieces of wood together, but I have had a few machines where this was not always the case.

Hello Treefrog,

thank you for the quick reply but 10 inches can not be. That would be a little bit over the center of the machine!

Regards

Sorry, I measured between the pins, so guess you can work it out. Would guess it's about 16 overall, so 3 inches.

Hello Treefrog,

thank you for your help. So far I had no luck. Two out of three are not around or in business anymore and the third option did not answer.

Does anybody out there have a Mills with the side floral ornaments and can help with some good pictures and some measurements? I think I will be able to draw my own ornaments and create a stencil for my project or print the picture in the correct size and go from there.
I have added a picture with the most needed measurements.

Any help will be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Looks the same base as my Pace. Overall width 14 inches, pins are 2 inches in from each side, 10 inches between them.

Hello Geofflove,

thanks for your reply. It matches all my other figures I collected. I will go with those measurements.
