[Newbie] Looking for replacement wheel for Aristocrat Grosvenor
[Newbie] Looking for replacement wheel for Aristocrat Grosvenor
Hi,
I have an Aristocrat Grosvenor where one of the wheels is cracked in the center.
It works for now, but I would like to replace it.
Are these parts available online - or would someone in this forum be willing to sell me one and ship to Norway ?
Regards,
Sigurd

Can you show us what part is damaged please?
Re: [Newbie] Looking for replacement wheel for Aristocrat Grosvenor
Yes, of course, sorry !
It is the transparent plastic wheel as shown in the picture here.
The spokes (?) have cracked and partially separated from the center.

Strangely we have another thread running with the same problem (well not so strange as these later Nylon star wheels have a habit of becoming brittle). They can be glued (but most likely the rest of the wheel won't last long). You can get them 3d printed (not sure how successful this is) or you can look for another reel bundle so you can steal the star wheels (with metal star wheels if possible). When you consider that Aristos are pretty much bomb proof it's a shame this later upgrade is a bit of a failure.

Re: [Newbie] Looking for replacement wheel for Aristocrat Grosvenor
Hi welcome to the forum,
I think the OP in this thread is referring just to the plastic spoke wheels on his machine and not the star wheel being discussed in other thread?
If it is just the transparent plastic, then I have seen a fair few of these just glued back together? They seemed to work fine? So if not too extensive and no parts are missing, this may at least be a temporary solution till you find a new, undamaged or just better replacement?
I don't have any spare reel bundles or plastics to send you. I do have other spares for Aristocrats. Hopefully another member has the parts you need?

Aristo... can you tell me if the plastic star wheels and the metal ones are inter-changeable, and for that matter, are the metal reels interchangeable with the clear plastic ones? If so, I MIGHT have spares for both threads.

Thank you for the replies !

Don't glue, try JB Weld. Available Amazon/eBay/B&Q (sometimes)
Looks like this
It's not one of these rapid products, it takes 24 hours to reach maximum cure. But IMO is the best.

The later Aristocrats used clear reel tins branded Torq-lites and were made from a hard plastic (brittle). Prior to this they used a more robust black plastic and of course metal like most companies.
I reckon 50% of the clear plastic ones I have seen damage, usually coming from the hub points where the screws go, either to over tightening or just being a weak point. Not an issue till other three spokes break. Also you see lots of bodge jobs like below, which may work for a while. I tend not to worry till it is a problem Other pain is the strips are glued to the plastic and difficult to remove cleaning, I have done this using steam, taking lots of time..

Oil and grease Tree, you'll find that has a long term effect on the plastic causing it to break down over time. Usually at the hubs where it has infected them. It's an issue with many things made of plastic. Eventually the plastic will turn back into its original constituents. Heat and UV are also an issue with things like 1950s and now '60s pinball playfield plastics. I've seen them go from mint perfect, to crackle crazed, to oozing oil and utterly destroyed in just a few years!
