Looking good Paul,
Are you planning to re-paint the castings in a similar colour or do you have something different in mind?

The paintwork looks pretty good and I would be tempted to simply retouch the missing paintwork. It would be a shame to repaint if it isn't necessary.

The plan is to repaint folks. What you cannot see in the photos is that the entire casting have been blown over with rather a messy can of paint. When I collected it even the handle was sprayed!

The inside is very untouched, the metal sides are light blue and the castings and bonnet bonnet are still in original red primer, note the original label still in situ.

I will also revarnish the wooden sides, these have had a brush coat of a water based stain that is dark and full of runs. It’s a winter project and the machine will join the arcade early next year. It’s in the house at the moment being played :-)

Thanks to Grains for helping me with an escalator glass and the correct award casting for this machine.

I have attached some photos of the before and after. The Ali casting had been shot blasted and was very tough in surface. 30 minutes with the sander , sanding sponge with autosol, fine wire wool with more autosol and finally a soft cloth with ……MORE autosol and it's back on the machine. I have not gone too mad with final polish as I want it to have some signs of wear; it's a 60+ year old machine after all. :-)

What a great forum this is :-)

So, here’s a funny thing…….whilst researching more about Sega machines I found a link on here and guess what…..a picture of my machine! If anyone knows the person that posted it let me know as I would like to track the machines history.

I probably confused myself in the process (it has happened on at least a couple of occasions while walking up the aisle), but the link you've shown seems to trail back to "Black Squirrel"
Google'ing the name along with Sega & username. Took me to a website called Sonic Retro, it seems Black Squirrel is quite active there , and is described as ...

Seems he was on today even!

So here is an update on the Copper Sega.Polished the Ali castings and discovered the cherry red, “original” (I know there is no such thing in reality) paintwork so thought I would have a go at reinstating it as best as possible. Not gone mad with it as I don't want the machine to look like a brand new one. Still got the cabinet to finish but getting there.
