Old machines still turn up in odd places

Post by coppinpr »

I have a good friend in Holland who is a professional slot machine restorer. In fact, he goes to great lengths to bring them back to their original set-up (as far as parts, denomination and style, but keeps the machine in original condition as much as possible). He buys machines from all over the world and last week he bought (and collected) a Jennings light up "Sweepstake Chief" from a casino in Gibraltar. I don't know if it had been on display or hidden in a storeroom, but it goes to show machines can still be found that are NOT already in collectors hands. so there is hope for us all. The machine was set to run on 2/-, but he suspects it was originally on 50c.

This is just an example, not the actual machine

I guess if being kept original, it will be left on florin. :!?!: I do not believe British machines were all on another coinage. Jennings and Mills made machine for the British markets and coinage, given the size of the market, so I doubt the machine was on US coinage, but who knows?

One of the original Gibraltar machines sold at the Elephant House 7 years ago for £3000 on florin.

yes, that's a much better photo and the same as Phil's machine (I couldn't find a good console photo) He thinks the machine was originally on 50c and is investigating to check but I suspect it was always the Florin
